Lovelace Falls

Multiple teens live in Lovelace Falls. Where do alliances lie? Who trusts who? Who's paired up with who? You'll have to read to find out.

9. Chapter 8

The bell rings as Claire, Rose, and I walk out of class. “Finally, school’s over!” Claire says happily. Rose and I laugh. We walk to our lockers, which are right next to each other.

“Do we have any homework?” Rose asks.

“We have to do some pages in the textbook.”

“Right! Thanks for reminding me!” Rose grudgingly puts her math textbook into her backpack.

“So, what do you think of Lovelace Falls so far?” I take in my surroundings.

“It’s okay. I’ve lived here in the past.” I sigh. “I have to go.” I point to Eli by his locker, waiting impatiently. “My brother and I have to get home. I don't think I'm helping us get there any faster by just standing here.” I laugh. “I'll see you guys tomorrow.”

“Talk to you guys later!” Rose says.

“See you guys tomorrow!” Claire waves goodbye as we all part our separate ways. I walk up to Eli.

“Come on, let’s go home.” He says. We walk outside.

“Is Wyatt here yet?” I ask as we check to see if the coast is clear to vamp-speed out of here.

“When I talked to him he was almost here.” “Oh.” I say disappointed. “Don’t worry, he’s probably home.” Eli says assuringly. “Hopefully.” I mumble. We vamp-speed to our house.

I knock on the door hoping Wyatt will answer, but he doesn’t. Eli looks around to see if Wyatt’s going to show up. I gulp. “Did they find him?”

Eli puts his arm around me. “Don’t think like that. Come on, let’s go inside.” We walk inside and are surprised to find that it’s quiet. Wyatt’s really not here.

“Eli, I’m hungry.” I say, wanting a taste of blood. “I don’t want squirrel blood.” I comment.

Eli shrugs. “Suit yourself.”

“I’m going to make a quick stop at the hospital.” I suddenly say.

“Fine!” Eli replies as he puts his backpack down.

“Call me if Wyatt comes!” I say, walking out the door.

“Wait!” I vamp-speed in front of Eli.

“I see you’re getting really close to Ashley, huh?”

“You are too Sky.” Eli says.

“It’s weird. She looks exactly like Shelby.” I say.

“I like her a lot.” Eli sighs. “She’s different from Shelby, you know?” I nod my head in agreement.

“Well, I’m pretty hungry, so I’m going to go. Want me to catch you a bunny on the way back?” I joke.

“Very funny.” He says annoyed.

“Bye!” I laugh. I walk out the door, and see Wyatt standing right in front of me.

“Aren’t you going to say hello?” He says.

“Wyatt!” I hug him. “I’m so happy you’re okay.”

“I’m just glad we’re all safe.” He says seriously. “I overheard you say you’re hungry for some blood. I have a girl in the back of the car if you want a bite.” Wyatt opens the car door and gets the girl out. Fresh blood is coming out of her neck. It smells so good. My fangs come out.

“No!” I push Wyatt away from me. “You just got here. You know I’m not drinking from people’s necks!” He sighs.

“Right. Eli’s eating bunnies, and you’re drinking out of donated blood bags.”

“Well that’s what happens when we go off the rails.” I sigh.

“Thankfully for me, I can drink whatever I want.” A smirk finds its way to Wyatt’s face while I just roll my eyes.

“You’re the lucky one.”

“I guess I am.”

Suddenly, Eli walks outside, pissed off. “Wyatt, I told you before. Don’t try anything stupid. You know what happens when we feed! Remember how hard it was to get the Skylar we love? Here you are trying to get her to drink blood. What’s wrong with you?”

“Brother-” Wyatt says.

“Look, I want to stay in town for more than three months without you bringing humans to drink from every night. Am I clear?” He says angrily.

“We all know why you’re here brother! It’s for Shelby’s look alike, right?” Wyatt asks.

“What did you do to her!” Eli yells.

“Nothing. I saw her walking home with a guy when I was driving over here.” Wyatt smirks. To my surprise, Eli vamp-speeds into the woods. I look at Wyatt, who seems to be enjoying this.

“I’ll deal with you later.”  I say as I vamp-speed into the woods after Eli. I finally reach my brother. I see him sitting on a log, throwing pebbles into the lake. I sit down next to him and put my head on his shoulder. “Thanks Eli.” I sigh loudly. “For protecting me.” Eli’s still ignoring me. “He seemed like he actually cared for a second. I saw it in his eyes. He was worried about me. Then he tried to get me to drink human blood.”

Eli gets up angrily and throws a big rock across the lake. “This is all my fault!”

I vamp-speed next to him. “Why would it be your fault?” He looks down. “Eli, look at me!” I put my hands on his face, forcing him to look at me.

“You know the answer, Sky.” I take my hands off his cheeks and look at him confused, still not understanding what he means. He sighs. “I was the one who forced you and Wyatt to become vampires. It’s my fault that you’re a ripper, and Wyatt’s well… himself.” He looks away from me. “If I didn’t turn you guys into vampires-” I slap Eli’s face.

“Don’t ever think like that again!” Tears start to roll down my face. I vamp-speed away. I want to be anywhere but here. I want to be alone.
