2. Chapter 1

Dear diary,

My brothers, Elliot and Wyatt aren’t going to meet me here till tonight, so that leaves me alone, again. I don’t know anyone here, since all my old friends have passed away. From the time I was turned, I’ve been an outcast to the rest of society. Sometimes I wish I died instead of this…

I stop writing and look at my shiny, silver ring, the thing that has kept me alive for 157 years. I shouldn’t think like this. I have other responsibilities, like going to school. I really missed this place; the place I share multiple memories with my family. A tear falls from my face. As I wipe it off, I look back one last time at my childhood home as I leave.

Here I am, at Lovelace High School, and I realize I haven’t been here in a long time. My first thought is to get to class. When I look at my phone, I realize Elliot’s texting me.

Elliot: Hey, are you there yet?

Skylar: Yeah, I just got to here. I’m pretty nervous.

Elliot: Don’t worry about it, you’re going to do fine.

Skylar: It’s not school that I’m worried about. It’s just, coming back to this town. Our home. All the memories are coming back.

Elliot: Sky, I’m on my way.

Skylar: Eli! You don’t have to come!

Skylar: Hello? Are you still there?

My brother is super annoying sometimes. Does he have to come right this minute? Ugh! I hear the bell ring, so I rush to class. When I step inside the classroom, I see Elliot sitting next to the only empty classroom desk. “Of course you’re already here!” I say, sarcasm in my voice. “I missed you so much.” I whisper. I wrap my arms around him, giving him a hug.

He says, “I did too.” I sit down next to him and wait for class to start. When I look in front of me, I see a girl talking to her friend. Is that Shelby? No, it can’t be.

“Eli?” I say.

“Do you think the girl in front of me… do you think it’s her?” He sighs.

“Sky, it can’t be her. She died in the tomb.” I stand up and feel Eli’s hand on my shoulder to pull me back.

“What do you think you’re doing?” I ignore him and push him back in his seat. I walk up to her.

“Do I know you from somewhere? You look kind of familiar.”
