9. A Family of Scraps

Dedicated to the LUOAsylumees.

She was broken, she grew up too fast
She wasn't sure if she could make life last
Torn up inside, cuts on her skin
Feeling alone, abandoned by kin

He was broken, shattered in his mind
He knew he was crazy, he couldn't be kind
To anyone, but himself most of all
One little push and they knew he would fall

A family of scraps, tattered and torn
They came just to breath, they all were so worn
By the world, by themselves, by all they had to fight
There was one place where they all felt alright

She was tired, she hated the world
She was a cynic, her heart couldn't unfurl
She saw too much, what hid underneath
But she always kept quiet, hurting down deep

He couldn't push himself, just coasted along
'Til he hit a roadblock, built by his own wrongs
But he was trapped in his old decisions and ways
His own addictions couldn't just leave in days

A family of scraps, tattered and torn
Friends who stopped just to breath, they were worn
By the world, by themselves, by all they had to fight
There was one place where they all felt alright

They were colorful and patterned
In every which way
Each shaped by what had happened
But still they hoped and prayed

They'd find other pieces they'd fit
Never realizing they were there
Not seeing the quilt they nearly quit
Mending their rips and tears

A family of scraps, tattered and torn
Friends who stopped just to breath, they were worn
By the world, by themselves, by all they had to fight
There was one place where they all felt alright
