Where Demons Hide

When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold

When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood's run stale

I want to hide the truth
I want to shelter you
But with the beast inside
There's nowhere we can hide

No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close
It's dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide

At the curtain's call
It's the last of all
When the lights fade out
All the sinners crawl

So they dug your grave
And the masquerade
Will come calling out
At the mess you made

Don't want t let you down
But I am hell bound
Though this is all for you
Don't want t hide the truth

No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

1. Consequences

“No angel may disobey his or her high ruler, or ignore orders from his or her high ruler on matters concerning heaven, hell, wars or matters of the heart. Any angel who disobeys is punishable by the highest price that is seen fit.” - From the Angelikí Práxeis

One, dark lock of hair slipped forward across the youth's face. He was, what you might call, handsome, but his fine features were ruined by the frown seeping through him. His head was bowed low, hair cascading across his face. Seated alone, he faced the Panel. The Eighteen Elders of Heaven looked at him, a touch of distaste visible in their eyes. One of the Elders stood up.
“We have come to a decision,” he said calmly, as if his words didn't decide the fate of a seventeen year-old boy. “You will be imprisoned in the High Court for one hundred and fifty years. Any attempt on your part to escape will result in eternal imprisonment, or execution.”
The boy tilted his face upwards. A look of – well, there wasn't a word to describe how he looked – hope, perhaps. “You mean, you won't hurt Phi?” His once-hunched shoulders relaxed with relief, but his face was set in a grim line, 150 years of imprisonment sounded awful, but at least Phi was safe… for now.
“You mean...” he lowered his voice and pulled a face as if the next word would leave a sour taste in his mouth. “...the girl. The high court decided her fate yesterday, with the high ruler.”
The boy stopped dead in his tracks. “What do you mean? What did you sentence her to? She hasn't done anything wrong. I'm the one at fault.”
“She traded her life for yours. The deal was, she admitted is was all her idea, and she pressured you into it all. Then, you would face only imprisonment, And she… Well, she was sent before the Angelic Firing Squad first thing this morning. She's gone.”
