He called the police and they broke the door in and discovered the bodies.

Benny was soon arrested and charged with murdering his parents.

Benny had to go for psychiatric reports before the trail. They said he was fit to stand trial. The ignored his testimony and the fact that he had told them that the voices in his head had ordered him to do it. They waited until he was sixteen before he appeared in Newcastle Crown Court. He defence attorney didn’t put up much of a fight; his case load was too big and he didn’t believe that he was innocent or that Benny had psychological problems. He wasn’t really bothered by Benny’s case.

The Judge ordered that he be given her majesty’s pleasure which meant that he could not be released from prison until the authorities no longer considered him a threat to society. Bobby was now twenty six; he’d spent ten years incarcerated and he had given up any hope of ever seeing Martha again.

Martha Jones went to college and studied law she passed the bar exam four years later and was a successful Solicitor for Hayne’s & Proctor. It was only by chance that someone mentioned the Leonard case one afternoon while she was having a coffee in the court cafeteria. Where are the records being held on this case?’

You can get a copy of the transcript but all of the files are in the station on Clifford Street.

After work Martha travelled in her car to the station. She was met by Sergeant Des Lewis.

“Is it possible to look at some old case files?’

“Are you working on a case at the moment?

“Well I could be said Martha; I just want to check the records.’

“What case did you want to look at Miss Jones?

“Benjamin Leonards.’

“Yes, I remember that one; he murdered both his parents I believe.’

Come through Miss Jones this might take a while we have hundreds of cases. Some of the older cases have been moved to our other building.

They went down into the basement where Des turned on the lights. “You can check in here if you like.’

“Is there access to copier?’

“Yes, there’s on in the small room along the corridor that you can use.’

Thanks’ Des you have been most helpful.’

“Give me a shout if you need anything.’ There’s a kettle in there I believe, so help yourself.’

The policeman left Martha to it an she walked along each row of iron framed shelving until she found the letter L she checked each of the boxes that were piled ten high each box had a case number on it she pulled the movable ladder on wheels along and read each case. There was a lot of them to get through but she took her time it was near the third row at the very top shelve that she found what she was looking for. The box was heavy. She didn’t want to ask for help so she struggled with the box onto the ladder there was a button once she had loaded the box onto the ladder and she pressed it and it was like a fork lift truck it glided her down to the ground and she lifted the box and carried it to the office.

Placing it on the desk she looked around the room and saw the copier. Then she filled the kettle and placed some instant coffee into a clean mug and put some sugar into it. “This is going to be a long night she said to herself as she opened the box. She scanned as many pages as she could and copied all of the relevant pieces of information. She filled the mug stirred it then began to make notes in a memo pad.
