Jackie Leonard went into his drawer and pulled out his bible.’

“Swear on this good book and we will forget all about this.’

Benny thought for a moment then placed his hand on the bible and swore that he’d never see Martha again.’

Now tomorrow you must go to confession and admit your sin against God.’

“Is it a sin to love someone mother?’

“No it is not, but this girl is only fifteen she is under age. “ Do you know that what you have done is against the law and you could be sent to prison for it?’

“I want you to go to your room now; you will come with me in the morning to confession.’

Benny went to his room he lay on the bed crying intro his pillow for over an hour then when he was all cried out he lay back with his hands behind his head and thought about Martha. He could not stop seeing her he loved her and no one was going to stop him. He took out his bible and read Thessalonians 4:1-12 trying to justify why he had committed a sin in the eyes of God. Was it wrong to love someone?’

The urge inside him was too strong; he could not give Martha up. Benny waited until his parents had gone to bed in the next room. He began to question his parent’s immorality when he had heard his mother cry out in pain. He had got out of his bed and looked through the key hole to his parents room to see his mother tied to the bed and his father whipping her with what looked like a cat’ of nine tails across her buttocks. He had an erection’ she began to cry out which made his father beat her even harder. He then climbed onto her and began to do things to his mother that he could not comprehend with his fingers; he placed his thing into her and pumped away like some wild animal. His eyes were lustful. There was nothing religious about what he was doing to his mother. She was crying when he’d finished.’ They had both sinned in the eyes of God and they would be punished.’

What he had done with Martha was warm, loving, and consensual not forced like his father.

Another time he had seen his mother sucking his father’s penis after being beaten. He grabbed her by the hair forcing himself deeper into her mouth. That was not love he thought; that was rape. His mother and father were hypocrites, the talked about immorality but they were the biggest offenders. He could bring himself to think about the things his father had done to him since he was five years old.

He walked slowly to the cupboard and took out a small axe that his father used for making sticks to light the fire. Benny opened the bedroom door of his parent’s room and tiptoed to the bed. He gazed down as his mother slept, her breasts were clearly visible. She was naked underneath the sheet and so was his father. The voices in his head told him to do it. He raised the axe then brought it down on his fathers neck The axe had been well honed by his father and was extremely sharp the axe severed his fathers head with one blow the blood pumped from the neck just like a headless chicken he’d seen one afternoon when his father had killed it on the chopping block. His father’s legs still moved momentarily and the eyes looked into space as he walked to the other side of the bed and brought the axe down on his mother.

Benny listened as the voices told him that his parents could not stop him from seeing Martha now.

For over two weeks Benny continued seeing Martha and it was when he was coming home one evening that there were police outside of his house. The neighbours had reported a foul smell coming from their bedroom and the workmen had knocked on the door of the Leonards to check the drains but it was the smell when he opened the letterbox to shout that alerted him; it was overpowering.
