forty pounds. His huge fists clenched and the two men approached him. Nathan was exceptionally quick for a big man.

His fist shot out when the men confronted him. Paul Thatcher ended up in a heap beside some dustbins as the punch bounced off his chin.

A round house kick by Howard Collins caught Nathan on the side of his head and he staggered back against the door. Howard came in to finish him off with a series of punches but Nathan had regained his senses and blocked them. He caught Howard in the wind pipe with an uppercut, he didn’t know it but he had crushed Howards neck with the force of the blow’ Howard staggered and Nathan now in momentum kept punching the man with big lefts and rights. He stared at Nathan with eyes wide then fell to the ground like a tree. He was dead before his head bounced off the ground.

Jack Bennet held up his hands in surrender then walked back to his car and drove away. Nathan called the police himself and when they came took a look at the two white men on the ground then promptly arrested him. They turned over Howard Collins and there was a lot of blood coming from his mouth. Officer Billy Smith felt for a pulse and there was none. “Billy looked at his colleague Brian Thompson and shook his head to indicate the man on the ground was dead. You’re in big trouble this time you black bastard said Billy Smith as he placed handcuffs on the big man then bundled him into a black Mariah.

At the station Nathan pleaded his innocence saying he’d acted in self defence but when they got to court the judge directed the jury to bring a verdict of murder because Nathan had used excessive force.

It only took the jury twenty two minutes to find Nathan Peters guilty of murder. He was given fifteen years hard labour.

Jeffery looked down at the man on the bunk as he was reading a book.

“I need your help said Jeffery;

Nathan never looked up from his book.’

“Did you hear me I…?’

“I heard y-you,’ w-what makes y-you think I would help you.’

“Because I can pay you.’

“I don’t need your money, I get by in here jus... fine.’

“I can get you out of here; I know all about your case.’

Nathan put down the book and sat up; okay I’m listening.’

“Well I know someone who can get your case reopened.

“Are you a lawyer?’

“Yes; I am.’

Then I know all about you as well; an’ what m-makes you think a nonce like you can help me.’

Because I know the right people; we all know that the coppers were bent and that you never admitted to killing Howard Collin’s that night. You signed that statement after six of the bastards beat you up isn’t that right?’

“Yes sir it was.’ they cuffed me firs’ then let loose with their truncheons on my body. “I was bruised from head to toe.

“Why did you sign; if you were innocent. They came into my cell wi a cut throat razor they held me down and pulled down my pants.

T-they was going to cut my dick off they said unless I signed.

“Is that why you signed the statement?’

“Wouldn’t you?’
