Eucatastrophe ~ h.s.

This isn't how I planned any aspect of my life to occur.

The plan was simple: Finish university with a 4.0 GPA, Get a well-paying corporate job that's more intense than the assistant job I've now, Find a man that loves me for me, Get married at a gorgeous ceremony, Have beautiful children, Grow old with the man of my dreams and watch our kids mature right before our eyes, and Then fall deeper and deeper in love with our time together.

That Night wasn't supposed to happen. My life wasn't supposed to turn out like this.

13 September

Home at last.

I've never been so happy to wheel up outside of my house than I have been in this very moment. Just knowing that my beautiful girlfriend is waiting on the other side of this door, probably curled up tiredly on the sofa watching the cooking channel has a bright smile attached to my lips. I begged her not to wait up for me, but as per usual Shay fought me on it.

She's a stubborn girl, but I love that about her.

I turn the doorknob and push the door open, striding into the house with my suitcase and briefcase in hand. I smile and inhale the sweet smell of spaghetti pasta streaming from the kitchen.

They probably figured I'd be hungry after flying so long, which I am. But I'm hungrier to see my girl than I am to eat a delicious home cooked meal.

I quietly sneak into my own house and tiptoe into the kitchen, hoping to find my girl at the stove but only find my best mate in her place.

"Oh, it's just you." I sigh, dropping my briefcase onto the counter and rolling my suitcase to rest by the table. Louis' turns towards me at the stove and sends me a half smile; not quite the welcome I thought I would receive but I'd take it.

"Hey." He says slowly, not near as excitedly as I thought he'd be.

I can tell that there might be something wrong just by his look, but I chose to ignore it at this point in time. All I can think about is seeing my girl. I can deal with his possible girl problems later.

"Where's Shay?"

"Um, upstairs, but I think you should just wait a minute before you go up there." Louis says, shutting the simmering sauce and cooked pasta off before turning to speak with me.

Immediate worry coats my features at the realization that his sad mood has something to do with Shay.

"What's happened? Is Shay alright?" My mind immediately goes to worst case scenario.

Has Shay been injured? Did she fall down the stairs whilst I was gone? Has something happened to the baby? Is the baby-

"Yeah, yes, she's fine, the baby is fine, but there's something I should warn you of first." He says, leaning back against the counter. I fight the urge to run upstairs to Shay rather than listen to what Louis has to say and take a deep breath. "Shay got a call today from a detective on her case against that attacker guy."

"Why? I thought we were done with that piece of shit." I seethe, clenching my jaw and fists at my sides.

"Apparently there's a trial set in a couple of weeks for the fourth of October."

"Fuck." I curse, running my hand through my newly cut hair.

I thought it'd be a nice surprise for Shay, cutting my hair after the fiasco last week at the doctor's appointment. I like it more than I thought I would meaning I hope Shay does. But at this point in time, I don't think a lousy haircut will make her feel better.

"How did she take it?"

"She cried for a while before calming down a bit. She hasn't said more than two words to me since, and that was like four hours ago. Shay finally admitted she was hungry like thirty minutes ago, thought the three of us could eat together before I head home."

"Yeah, sounds good." I say completely disregarding the fact that Louis' going home tonight. "Where's Shay now?"

"In the lounge."

"Okay." I say, turning my back to Louis and rushing towards the chair.

"And Harry," I turn back around and peek around the corner, "I like your hair."

"Thanks." And with that I'm sprinting up the stairs.

I find Shay sitting on the sofa in the lounge, staring at the telly with a blanket wrapped around her figure. She doesn't look like she's paying too much attention to the programme, but it's more than she's paying me right about now. Her eyes are drooped and they're probably bloodshot. Her body is curled up in the smallest ball she can possibly form, with her head on the arm of the sofa. She looks miserable.

"Hey baby." Her eyes lift from the telly and a small smile comes across her lips. She starts to stand but I stop her by rushing to her side and pulling her onto my lap once seated on the sofa. "You're okay." I tell her when I start to hear her cry once again.

This wasn't how I imagined tonight going. I thought we'd snuggle up before bed, maybe snog a bit, and then relax completely now that we're together. But I don't think any of that is going to happen now.

"Louis told me about the phone call." I say in a hushed tone as I pull her closer to my chest. She buries her head against my shoulder and continues to breath heavily against me. The sound of her suffering quietly makes me want to cry as well. "I'm so sorry, baby." Shay sniffles before shaking her head and sitting up.

"Logically, I should have known that a trial was coming. I guess I just pushed all my thoughts about that case completely out of my head." There's pain evident in her voice telling me she's trying to keep her composure.

"Me too."

I hadn't thought about a case since Shay identified the man. I just thought her identifying him would be enough to leave it at that; apparently not.

"I promise you that I will not leave your side, no matter what. I'll be right there with you in the courtroom."

"I know he can't hurt me physically anymore, but I'm worried he'll do some mentally fucked up thing to me because I'll be six months pregnant and I know he'll know. He'll know as soon as he sees me that this baby is his, Hell, I'm sure his lawyer has already got him clued in." Shay rants as she slides off my lap and sits beside me. Her head flops down onto my shoulder and she aggressively wipes her eyes.

If there's one thing I admire about Shay it's her push to be strong. She's already stronger than any other person I've ever met, but her push to remains headstrong amazes me.

"One good thing about his phone call today is that Detective Briar said he will never be in contact with his daughter."

I physically wince at the sound of Shay calling her rapist the father of her child. It may be true but he'll never be a dad to this little girl.

"As soon as she's born his parental rights will be terminated because of the situation. He'll be deemed unfit and he will not have any rights to her." Shay pulls her head up off my shoulder and sends me a small smile.

"There's something else?"

Just the way Shay seems to smile at a time like this means there's something else.

"It means that you will be able to legally adopt her without any problems." My heart starts beating a little quicker in my chest. "In a few weeks to months time after the birth you'll be a father, Harry." I smile down at her and lean in, pecking her lips briefly.

"Shay." I mutter, causing Shay to hum. "I already feel like a father."

Shay pops her head up a bit more and pouts her bottom lip out slightly. I can once again see the tears forming in her eyes, but these days Shay's tears can mean anything.

"I love you so much, hon, you know that?"

If only you knew how much I love you, Shay.

"I love you just as much, if not more." Shay presses her lips to my shoulder before dropping her head down on it again. I peck her on the top of the head before turning towards her and placing my palm on her stomach. "This right here, this is what I love the most. I have you, this little bean, and a beautiful home. I don't need anything else."

"Don't forget about your family."

"Of course not, my family is one of the most important things to me."

I'm not sure if she knows this, but I consider Shay a part of my family. Between her, my mum, Robin, and Gemma, I have all the family that I could ever want and need, with the exception of the little bundle of joy growing inside Shay's womb.

"You know," I mutter against Shay's hair, "you haven't commented on my very drastic appearance change since I've been away." I joke, causing her head to pop up once again.

I don't blame her for missing the haircut with the stress she's been dealing with since earlier. Maybe now it'll make her feel a bit better too.

"Your beautiful hair." She says smiling. "You've cut your hair. Harry I absolutely love it. I'm sorry I didn't say anything."

"I don't blame you darling."

"Darling? Is that a new pet name?"

"I don't know; do you like it?" She sends me a cheeky grin before resting her head on my lap and lying down.

"I do."

I swiftly move my fingers through Shay's blonde hair and smile down at her though she can't see me. The only person she can see is Gordon Ramsay on the telly.

"Then I'll call you it more often."

"I'd like that."
