Eucatastrophe ~ h.s.

This isn't how I planned any aspect of my life to occur.

The plan was simple: Finish university with a 4.0 GPA, Get a well-paying corporate job that's more intense than the assistant job I've now, Find a man that loves me for me, Get married at a gorgeous ceremony, Have beautiful children, Grow old with the man of my dreams and watch our kids mature right before our eyes, and Then fall deeper and deeper in love with our time together.

That Night wasn't supposed to happen. My life wasn't supposed to turn out like this.

22 November

Things had been quiet and I couldn't have been more thankful for it so. Part of me had dread the moments after leaving the courthouse, thinking that the verdict was just too easy. It was like a dream that I was most likely going to wake from.

But fortunately for me, I never woke up.

A couple weeks went by with some uproar in the media about Mr. Harry Styles in court with beloved girlfriend and assistant, Shay Nichols. The headlines were all bogus, everyone in the media thinking it was some custody dispute and that Harry and I were calling it quits. I was more than surprised and thankful when three weeks went by and nobody had spilled to the press about the real situation.

Things died down after about three weeks, I came out of "hiding", where Harry had wanted me to stay until everything quieted, and moved on with my life. I went out to eat with Gemma on some of her lunch breaks, I went food shopping at Waitrose by myself, and I even took up pregnancy yoga.

Harry stopped having me report at work, saying I would just stress myself out and that I should just relax in the quiet before the baby arrives. I was a little bummed at first, throwing a massive strop about it, but I'm "okay" with it now.

Today had been a different kind of day. I had woken up from an almost perfect sleep in the arms of my boyfriend. When I had looked in the mirror, I decided my face didn't look fat and that I looked genuinely beautiful, something I haven't felt in a long time. Everything about today up 'til now had been perfect, and I didn't want it to change.

Harry had called saying he forgot some paperwork at the house and was too busy to come by and pick it up. Of course I jumped on the offer to take it to him, missing work so damn much that I'd do about anything to step foot in the office again.

The streets outside Styles Inc. have been relatively calm now, only a couple paps waiting outside the door when I approach. I clutch my bag to my body and slither through them, ignoring the questions of our "break-up" and potential custody of our "son". In a way it's nice that they don't know the truth, our daughter can be ours for a little while longer.

"Ms. Nichols, what a surprise!" I turn my head to the front desk, seeing a familiar face residing in her normal seat. Her usual red lipstick now a light pink colour and her normally curly hair straightened down her back.

"Good afternoon Jade. How are you?" I question, slowing to chat but still continuing my way into the building with files on my arm.

"I'm lovely, you? You look amazing."

"Awe, I'm alright. Thanks."

"Have a good day." She hollers after me as I come up on the opening lift. I call over my shoulder to her as well before loading the lift and pressing the thirtieth floor button.

I don't make it all the way upstairs to the top floor without interruption. The lift stops at floor eighteen and as soon as I see the doors begin to move I pray that whomever is on the other side isn't a tall, brunette that has many occasions made out with my former intern.

Yes, Melissa is finally gone!

"Shay Nichols, what a bloody surprise!" Fuck.

"Cameron, good to see you." I say, stepping towards the side of the lift to give him some space. He enters the lift, looking at the number I've pressed before leaning against the back wall, looking me up and down.

"You really are pregnant!" I chuckle slightly and nod my head, resting my hand atop my growing stomach.

"Yep, I'm seven months as of yesterday, can't really lie about that."

We fall into silence as I watch the floors tick away, praying that floor thirty will come sooner rather than later.

"So you and Styles, huh." I roll my eyes and take a peek back at Cameron, who's got his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes wondering the lift.

"Yep." I reply in short, not feeling in the mood for conversation, especially with him.

"Oh come on, it's a standard question. No one even knew you were dating the guy until one day it's out in all the tabloids. The next thing we know, you're pregnant with his love child."

"Love child?" The phrase hit something deep within me. I wasn't sure what it was, but I didn't like the taste of the words leaving my mouth either.

"What else would you call it?" I spin around to face him, my jaw set angrily.

"I don't know, our baby, our love. She wasn't just an accident Cameron."

"So it's a girl?" The lift doors open before me, giving me the escape I need before I lose it on Cameron completely. Unfortunately the man is following me into my old office and towards the open doors of Harry's. "Story is you and Styles are splitting up, those the custody papers?"

I stop in the middle of the hallway, Harry's CFO walking past with her assistant. She goes to say something but notices the rigid stance I'm in and simply sends me a smile and a nod, to which I'm grateful for. She's been helping Harry out a lot as I've been gone.

"We're not splitting up. You should know not to believe everything you read in a magazine." I spit, walking into my old office.

"Yeah, well I read somewhere that you're a bitch, guess that's true." I spin around, ready to lose it, but before I can someone else does.

"What the fuck is your problem?"

Cameron smirks to himself as Harry emerges from his office to come and stand in between Cameron and I. Anger is written all over his features and I can't help but think he's heard the majority of the conversation from down the hall.

"No problem here, sir." He bites back, tossing the file folder, which he had been holding, at me. I catch it, but not before half the contents are already on the floor.

"Get the fuck out of my office, Cameron. Don't bother coming back up." Harry's jaw is set in anger, his fists balled at his sides. "From now on I don't want to see your face. You're no longer permitted on this floor. I'll have someone else from your department deliver the statements. And if I do see you again, anywhere near Shay might I add, your ass will be out on the street. I can assure you you won't find another job in this city, hell, this country, if you do."

The two men eye each other for what seems like an eternity before Cameron stalks out of the office and down the hall towards the lift. Things are silent between us for a bit, neither of us knowing what to say.

"That was very hot." I decide on saying. Hoping a bit of comic relief would help in a situation like this. Harry stops staring where Cameron had been and turns his attention to me with a slight grin on his face.

"What was wrong with him?" I shrug my shoulders and sigh heavily; kneeling down to pick up all the financial papers he had basically thrown at me face. "I've never seen him that pissed."

"I think the realization that him and I will never be just occurred to him today. He got on the lift whilst I was there and started chatting me up about not believing I was pregnant and then he brought up the whole break-up/custody battle that the media had been reporting on. It just sent him over the edge I guess. Let's not worry about it."

Harry sends me a hopeful smile and helps me gather all the loose paper before helping up to my feet.

"Hi." I say, properly greeting him with a kiss. Harry chuckles heartedly and leans down, pecking my lips with his again for a welcomed greeting. "I brought your paperwork." I hand over all the files in my hand before following him into his office.

I take a moment to look around, it having been about a month since I've stepped into this office. The placement of the furniture is the same, but there's boxes everywhere all containing the last of the files that need to be sent over to Sydney.

The Ribbon Cutting ceremony is in a week's time and I know I'll miss him dearly, but Gemma promised to stay with me whilst he's away.

"So is that all you needed from me?" I question. "I travel all this way just for some paperwork and a couple kisses?" Harry shakes his head before plopping down in his desk chair and motioning over for me to come sit upon his lap.

"I actually have a favour to ask of you, if that's alright." I take a seat on his lap and run my fingers through his long curls.

"Harry, you've given me everything and more. The least I could do is honour some favours." Harry smiles gratefully, wrapping his arms around my body and resting his hands on my stomach.

"I know it's last minute. Lou has been set in charge of watching her nephew, Sid, but she has some dinner that she has to go to tonight and I'm apparently roped into it as well. She was wondering if you'd be interested in watching the kids for the night." I bite my lip, locking eyes with Harry over my shoulder.

"Are you sure that's a good idea? I'm not the best with kids, yet. I mean the only time I've really been with them is when we take care of Lux on occasion, and even that is rare. How old is Sid?"

"He'll turn one this month."

Not once have I taken care of an infant, I've barely even held one. I can't foresee this panning out well. If I was just watching Lux, I'd probably be fine, but I have to be in charge, by myself, of an infant who can't speak, can't potty on his own, etc.

"I don't know." I muster up, biting my lip nervously. The anxiety of watching two children already getting to me. "Do you think this is a good idea?" I ask him, hoping he'd shed some light on this situation.

"I honestly think this is a wonderful idea. You'll get some experience with children and learn a few things. Lux, though she's only five, is great with Sid and can help you out! Plus, Lou and I will only be a phone call away if you need anything. Don't overthink this Shay."

With one look back at Harry and his big green eyes and pouty lips, I feel I have no other choice.

"Alright, I'll do it."

"So, Sid's food is in the fridge and is labeled as such. I've already prepared a dinner for Lux that's in the oven, feel free to help yourself, there's plenty. Sid falls asleep 'round seven; as for Lux, she's probably going to fight you on her eight-thirty bedtime, so no later than nine-thirty is all right. Hmmm, am I forgetting anything?"

All I can do is stand back and watch as Lou rushes round her lounge, picking up princess toys and looking for her lost shoe. She doesn't appear to have a handle on everything at the moment, so I don't know how she expects me to have one at all. As for Harry, he's sat on the floor in a suit and tie with Sid on his lap, making the little boy giggle.

"Oh, the emergency numbers are on the counter. And if any of them give you significant trouble just ring myself or Harry, but if you can't get ahold of one of us Clark can pop over."

"Relax Lou, Shay's got it." Harry says, climbing to his feet and resting Sid on his hip. "Haven't you Shay?" I merely nod slowly at my boyfriend, knowing damn well I do not "got it".

"Yep. Everything will be fine Lou." I assure her, trying to assure myself as well in the situation.

Lou sighs and picks up her lost shoe, that was hidden behind the sofa, before calling for her daughter. Lux rushes in and gives her mum and big hug and a kiss. They exchange a few words as Harry walks in my direction with the adorable little boy still in his arms.

"You alright? You're looking rather pale."

"Only because I'm freaking out." I whisper, glancing over Harry's shoulder to insure Lou isn't listening in. Surely she wouldn't want a babysitter that's a half a step away from a panic attack, surely. "You're keeping your phone on, right?"

"Yes, but you're not going to need me. You'll do great." Harry hands Sid over to me and I carefully take the boy in my arms, resting him on my own hip. He begins to play with the neckline of my shirt as Harry stands back and admires the two of us. "I'll miss you."

"You're saying that like the two of you are leaving me for more than just a night." Harry laughs and shakes his head, leaning down a bit to place a sweet kiss upon my lips. The kiss only does little to soothe my raging nerves.

"Time to go, we'll be late." Lou coughs from over Harry's shoulder, causing him to groan.

"Good luck, love." And with that Harry and Lou are out the door, leaving me with two children under the age of six.

Good luck me.

"Shay?" I look down at the little girl tugging on my jeans, fanning a smile for her sake. "Can we watch Tangled?" I glance over to the clock on the wall, the time showing six in the evening.

"Um, I've got to feed Sid first and maybe you should have dinner as well. Your mum cooked your favorite, macaroni and cheese."

Thinking I was about to have the first tantrum of the night I brace for the screams, but they never come. Instead Lux, yelps with joy before taking off in the direction of the kitchen.

"Come on bud, let's have some food."

"So are you and Harry married yet?" Lux had been firing questions at me ever since she sat down and began eating her food. Most of the questions were about my favorite Disney movie (Tangled), my favorite colour (pink), or something else a five year old would ask an adult, I presume. But now apparently were coming the serious topics.

"Um, no honey, you know this. We would never get married without you there. Why'd you ask?" I wonder, scooping another spoonful of mashed carrot into Sid's awaiting mouth. He really is enjoying this stuff, though it looks and smells putrid.

"Because mummy said that you're having a baby. Mummy said I can't have a baby until I'm married." I chuckle lightly, loving her innocent mind. I wish I could be a child again, living unaware of the dangers of the world.

"Well," Oh bullocks, how do I explain this one, "Harry and I love each other very much and because of this we asked my fairy godmother if we would be able to have one early."

"You have a fairy godmother?!" Lux squealed, standing up in her chair with stars in her eyes. At least she wasn't asking about how to have a baby before marriage or where babies come from.

"Bug, sit down before you hurt yourself." I scold lightly, pointing downwards. Slowly, Lux sits back down, but her attention is still heightened on me and the story of my fairy godmother. "I do have one, her name is... Louisa." Lux giggles.

"She has a name like Uncle Louis." I laugh alongside her.

"She does, doesn't she."

"Do you think I could have a fairy godmother?" Lux asks, staring down at her bowl of macaroni before shoveling another spoonful in her mouth. I shrug my shoulders and continue feeding Sid.

"I don't know honey, you would have to ask your mum."

My mobile buzzes in my pocket and I immediately fumble with it to see the incoming text message I had just received.

Harry: How is it going?

Me: Not too bad. I might have told Lux fairy godmothers exist though.

Harry: Now why would you do that?

Me: She was asking how come we could have a baby before marriage when her mother told her she couldn't. What was I supposed to say?!?!

"Who are you laughing at?" Lux ponders, looking up from her bowl to see me laughing at the screen in my hands.

"Just Harry."

"Oooo, tell him I say hi."

Me: Lux says hello btw!

Harry: I was just giving you a hard time! Hello Bug <3 <3

Harry: Listen I've got to get back to the table, just thought I'd check up whilst in the loo.

"Harry says hi, bug." She claps her hands before pushing her bowl away from her and peering around the room.

"Can we watch Tangled now?"
