18. Abner is Back

Hanna woke up in a nice bed. Hanna had thought for a second that it was all just a dream. But when she looked around she saw her clothing bloody and never going to be worn again. With the look of her clothing, Hanna looked down to see that she was wearing a clean nightgown. She throws back the covers and got up from the bed. "Easy. Take it nice and slow," A voice told her from somewhere. She looked around the room trying to find the voice. When she didn't see anyone she got up a little faster. "I said take it slowly, Hanna. If you want to not break anything then I will say that it is in your best desire to grasp what I tell you," The voice said again. This time Hanna felt a hand on her lower back and looked around her to see if she could see the person. The first person that she saw was Abner in bed, right next to where she had been.

"What the hell? I- Cody- We- we killed you! How are you alive?" Hanna asked amazed and not caring about her looks at that moment. Abner smiled softly at her muttered of questions and stuttering them out. But didn't answer her question. Hanna didn't smile back she was still too shocked. One look around her told her she was not at the base. "Where am I?" She asked and moved around the room to check it out a bit more.

"I told you to take it easy," Abner said bounced out of bed and raced to get her back into the bed so she doesn't hurt herself. "Where you are is my bedroom in my house that I got right after I got you to a safe spot. Now stop moving," He ordered her. Hanna stopped moving at once so he didn't drop her on the ground or hurt her more than she already was hurt. Her whole body was sore and there was nothing she could do about it. "You're probably wanting to know how you got here, yes?" He asked but didn't wait for Hanna to answer," Yes well, I came by your 'base' as you like to call it and saw all the fighting. I was trying to talk to Alice when you walked in with Cody. I saw Cody try to kill her but fail. I just wasn't ready for it when she turned him. I wanted to run but you didn't so I couldn't run away from her. No, instead you stayed and try to reason with her. You got farther with reasoning with her than I did, by the way," Abner put her on the bed and moved to get her something to drink, " When I saw you kill her and then say 'sorry sister' I heard you crying. And I believe, if I am right, that you don't cry that often. I saw when your eyes rolled behind your head and I saw Cody start to get up for his first meal. I am sorry but I killed him. After I got rid of him I picked you up and took you here," He finished. Hanna started crying again. Her best friend had just been killed. If someone was going to tell her something like that she was going to hope that they rip the news off and not sugar coat it.

It had been so long since Hanna had cried over a death that she was shocked that with her tears came thoughts and feelings for Cody that never should have been there in the first place. Hanna was going through every moment in her life when she thought of Cody as a big brother to her. Everyone fight that they had been through and everything that she knew about Cody was running through her head. Hanna needed her best friend. When she thought that she had needed her little sister she was wrong. She needed Cody. She needed Abner and Cody to be right in the world. Without them, she was going to feel lost and alone for the rest of her life until she ca find someone who can do something for her to prove that she didn't need her best friend or big brother.

Hanna felt a cold glass of water pushed to her lips and a hand at the back of her neck she opened her mouth to drink the water but she looked at Abner who was being nice to her. When he pulled to glass away she asked in a whisper, "Why didn't you just turn me on the spot? Why be so nice to someone who has only known death? You don't look like you want anything back from me. So why be so nice?"

"I am being nice to you because I want to be nice to you. I can be nice to whomever I wish to be nice too. I didn't turn you because if I was going to turn you I would do it a little better than the turn that your sister did to Cody. She doesn't know that you have to turn someone the right way," Abner told her after he thought about it for a second or two. Hanna looked at him differently, he noticed. She looked at him like she had some feeling for him that went deeper than just themselves. She was the one for him and that meant that he was going to defend her during her choices. Abner knew that he was going to have to win himself over and knew that it was going to be hard with her but it was going to take the world to have him be away from her in a big fight or the biggest days for her life. If her family can not be there then she was going to have to make do with him.

"I am hungry. Can you get me some food please?" She asked him changing the subject as fast as she could get words out of her mouth. Hanna didn't like taking about people being friendly to her because they wanted to be friendly to her. No one had even been just nice to her. No one but her mother and father till they were eliminated.
