5. Closer

I spent most of my time looking for a job that I would feel passionate about. Nothing really interested me as much as my old job.

Things were going good with Jeremy, but as they got closer I had built up a strong detest for him. Within a few a hours, Hayden would find out about everything.

As usual near the weekend, Jeremy went to the gym. I had looked on his phone to see if the picture was there, and sure enough it was. I bet he hadn't even touched his phone after the last time we talked.

Hayden and I were going to get frozen yogurt. We hadn't really been able to talk since Jeremy was always around.

“Sooo, what do you think about Jeremy?”

My arms got goosebumps and i didn’t answer.

“Okay? Is there something I should know?”

“No”

Okay listen, I know I said I would tell her but I was actually afraid. I know right, usually I'm not scared of anything; since her glare was so intimidating I kept it to myself.

“Okay-”

“There’s something off about you. Are you and whomever okay?”

“Yes, no,  it's not about me. I wanna know how you're doing.”

“I’m pretty good, I never thought me and Jeremy would work out now that I thought about that.”

She started going on about how we don't hang out anymore, and how she was going to devote every free time she had to talk because she's been having emotional problems. I had instantly felt more connected to her as we spoke.

We walked back to the house, and I had finally gathered up the courage to tell her.

“Listen Hayden,” I said while she was opening the door.

We both walked inside and she put her cup in the freezer.

“Yeah, whats up?”

“I think you should stop seeing Jeremy.”

“You’re joking right?”

I didn't look her in the eye.

“I’m sorry, but since when do you have the right to tell me who I can and cannot date?”

“I just don’t think he’s right for you, you deserve better.”

“How do you know if he's the right one or not? You can barely even give a man enough attention.”

“We’re talking about you here, not me.” I was starting to regret me helping Hayden by the change of her attitude.

“You don’t know anything about me-”

“Oh really, because I know that once I have someone that cares about me it's never enough for you. All you ever talk about is what problems you have to solve, I’m surprised you could even listen to one thing I said.”

“That's not true, I’ve always listed to you. In highschool when you were bullied I stood up for you.In fact, you wouldnt even be comfertable with who you are today.”

“Way to rub it in, you never approved of anyone I dated.”

“That’s because they were all playing with you. All these years I felt neglected by you because you were invested with someone else.” I was surprised all of this was coming out of my mouth.

“Oh, so that's why you don’t like Jeremy.”

“You don’t even know why I’m saying this do you? Jeremy cheated on you.”

“Oh, is that some bullshit excuse to kick him out of the house. Everything was going good until you showed up.”

“If you really that way I’ll just leave. There's no point in trying to fix things.”

I started shove everything in my bag.

“You don't believe me, look on his phone”

I was so nervous that I could throw up.

I started to call Jack, but he wouldn’t pick up.

I managed to get to his house and knocked on the door.

“It’s open!” he yelled.

“Fuck Angel you scared me,” he laughed.

Jack was wearing a dress shirt, pants, and boots. His hair looked nice, and his eyes looked me up and down.

“What’s going on with you?”

I could hear Vinny screaming in the background, and it made me laugh a little.

“Can I come in?”

“Of course, do you want a drink?”

“Yeah,”

Surprised by my answer, Jack raised his eyebrows.
