Just One Life (Sequel)

"Right then and there, I knew she wouldn't leave my side. She would do anything for me."

2. And?

I woke up to a baby face with chubby cheeks.

“Hey Annabella!” I said with excitement.

Jack handed her to me, and I made a bunch of weird faces.

Annabella spitted on her bib as she laughed. I wiped her face and kissed her head. Realizing what I just did I looked at Jack. He didn't seem to mind, and looked at me with his worried eyes.

I put Annabella down on the bed.

“I shouldn’t have slept in, I’m sorry.”

“It’s my fault, I didn't mind a little company. After all it's only me.”

“I should probably get back to Hayden's house.”

“You're living with Hayden?”

“I know right, it's a shocker she even let me stay right?”

“Yeah I hope she doesn’t mind. You know you can always stay over mine till you find a place.”

I swear I had almost gotten goosebumps when he said that.

“Actually you wouldn’t want to live with me. I’m a freaking mess.” He smirked.

“I couldn't possibly anyway, how would I thank you?”

Jack glances at Annabella. “Even if you can’t stay, I still need someone to take care of Annabella.”

“-If you don’t mind,” Jack says quickly.

“What do I mean? Of Course you don’t mind.”

“Think of it as me taking care- doing a favor for you...while you take care of Anna.”

Jack starts to get up and walked toward the door.

“No Jack.”

He had already closed the door.

I crashed down on my bed.

“Huh,” I sighed.

Annabella looked at me, chewing on her bib. “You know I'm only doing this for you right?”

She looked at me clueless.

“You're right, I am sort of doing this for Jack too.”

I got up realizing I had one of Jack’s shirts on, and some sweatpants.

I rushed into the kitchen carrying Annabella. I put her down on the counter.

“Jack I'm sorry, I don't think I'm ready for this.”

“You'll be fine, you can handle her.”

“I mean, what if Tracy comes over?”

“She only comes on the weekends, barely the weekdays.”

“I mean you're gone most of the time, yesterday you came back late.”

“Good, that means you won't have to deal with me,” He smiled.

“I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. I’m not capable of taking care of anything. I still have to find out what I'm going to do for the next couple of years!”

“And I think I should just go…”

It was silent and Jack stopped stirring his coffee.

“I shouldn't have asked you. It's just that-”

“Nevermind, Ill drive you home. It was good catching up with you anyway.” Jack looked up from the ground and smiled.

“Still the same loser.”

Jack patted my head, “Come here.”

He came close to me and pushed my head into his chest. It felt warm as his hands were holding me close. I was surprised at first because Jack is not really the kind of person who hugs people. Especially not his ex girlfriend.
