2. Chapter 2

I pushed the boulder aside. The wind was blowing me backwards and I felt as if I was growing weaker and weaker. I had to use the power of my wings, even if it did mean it could be the last time I ever did.

I flapped my wings, and I flew forward. I was now holding onto the rock. I used all my strength to twirl around it, and I passed the entrance. The first test.

The boulder shut me in with a bang. Or maybe that bang was just my heart... or my wings? I wasn't sure. My wings were now drooping, nearly brushing against the floor.

I watched as one single gray feather came apart from my right wing and floated down, down, down until it touched the floor. It then erupted in flames.

I jumped. I just realized what I was doing. NO. If I get denied, I will have nowhere to go. I will fall. Just like Paka said.

I spun around and tried to move the rock aside. It wouldn't budge.

"No." I whispered in a panic, "No, no, no. No, no, no!"

I flung myself at the Boulder. "Open, open," I prayed, but it wouldn't move aside.

I wished I was mortal again. That I could sit here, and starve to death. How lovely that would be. But instead, I would stay here forever. No dying, no forgiveness.

"God." I cried, "God, no, please... Take me back. I-I..."

Inside me, something... Clicked.

"I must keep going,"

I took a wobbly step away from the Boulder, and watched as one helpless feather turned grey, and floated down to the ground. I turned black quickly.

I took another pace.A voice in my head said, "Keep going, you're nearly there. Go on."

I did. I took another step, and another, and another. Feathers drifted down with every pace, the cavern getting darker too.
