12. That Night

By 11 I was very anxious. Jack and I were separated for a day and I already missed him, I don't know if that was good or bad but I'm just glad we were going to talk it out. When I heard a knock at my window, I expected to see Jack but instead it was Nash. I open it. “Go away, Jack is suppose to be coming over and if he sees you he's going to flip. Okay? I don't want him getting the wrong idea.”
“I'm not going anywhere.” he came inside and shut the widow behind him.
    “Nash...” I began.
“Look, you and I both know there is something between us.”
“There is nothing between us, I already told you, now leave before Jack comes.”
“Oh, he said he's not coming.”
“What? Why not? Why were you talking to him? He doesn't even like you.”
“So? I don't like him either but he told me to keep you busy and he didn't want me to tell you what he was doing.”
    “No he didn't, you're lying.”
    He handed me his phone:
J – I need you to keep Liz busy.
N – Okay.
N – Why?
J – I have to do something tonight and I promised her I was going to come over.
N – What are you doing?
J – I can't say... can you do it for me or not?
N – Oh, I can keep her busy...
J – I swear if you touch her, you'll regret it. Okay? Just talk to her or something. And I'm serious about this DON'T TELL HER WHY YOU'RE THERE.
N – I won't, I won't. Can you tell me why I have to keep her so busy?
J – I need to have a talk with your brother
N – For what?
J – That's all I'm saying, I don't need any leverage for anyone.
I sit on my bed, in shock. “You just let him go over there? What is wrong with you.”
    He shrugged.
    “That's your little brother.”
“I thought you didn't care for him anyways, why are you so worried?” he plopped himself next to me and laid back.
I stood up quickly. “I don't, I'm looking after Jack. After what Hayes did to...” I stop and bite the inside of my cheek, if I say his name I'll cry, especially after the dream I had last night.
“Did to who? What do you mean?” Nash sat up.
“Nothing, never mind. I have to go stop Jack. I don't have my keys though, can you drive me?” I open my window again and stick my foot out but Nash pulled me back in.
“You need to stay here.” he says.
“You can't tell me what to do.”
“Well, you need a ride because you don't have your car and you don't even know where I live.” he crossed his arms with a smile on his face. “So I basically have you wrapped around my finger.”
“Actually you don't. You read Jack's message, you touch me he'll break your neck.”
“He doesn't need to know.” he brushed his fingers along my cheek.
“Okay, how about I break your neck right now.” I pushed him and he stumbled backwards.
When he regained his balance he looked angry. “I was only kidding. God, don't you know how to take a joke, you're such a bitch.”
“No, I don't. Especially with you Grier brothers, and after what Hayes did, you're going to play around like that. You're lucky I don't get my mother on you.”
    “Snitch.” he mumbled.
I push him again, this time just a little harder but not enough to push him down. “What did you call me.” I push him again. “People really need to stop calling me that because I swear, next time, I'm gonna flip.” I push him once more, now he's backed against the wall. “Take me to your house, now!”
