Trouble: Doubled

Just as Liz thought everything was back to normal, things take a twist and slowly start falling down hill again. Even though Hayes is not allowed to be around her, he still somehow manages to screw with her head and mess with all of her relationships.... Or is Liz letting her past come back to haunt her?

9. Drive

Before I can say anything I hear my alarm go off and I wake up in my bed. I let out a quiet sigh, it was just a dream. A really good dream, but just a dream. I close my eyes again and smile, thinking about how real his touch was on my hand, remembering how he used to smell when he gave me a hug. God, I miss him. I wish I could go back to sleep and stay in that one dream for the rest of my life.
“Are you up?” mom pokes her head in my room.
I turn over, so my back is to the door. “I'm up.”
She comes in. “I'm sorry, honey. I know sometimes I may seem like the bad guy, but I promise you I'm not.”
I bit the inside of the cheek, I just want her to leave. “Mom, I have to get ready for school.”
“I'll give you a ride?” Ellie says as I come down the stairs.
“I can walk.” I mumble, I'm still angry at her but I feel like Garry would kill me if I did anything to her so I want to stay as far away as possible. Just as I open the door though, I see Nash sitting on the hood of my car. I walk over to him and slap him in the face. “You have a lot of nerve showing up here.”
“I know. I'm sorry, but I wanna talk to you.” he says, holding his cheek.
“I have nothing to say to you.” I point to my window.
    He sighed.
“You blew me off yesterday morning and now you wanna act all buddy-buddy? Well, guess what? It's not going to happen.” I start walking down my driveway but he chases after me.
“Let me pay for the damage.”
    “Oh you are going to.”
    “Why are you walking?”
I'm still going but even though his car was parked right outside my house, he is walking beside me. “My mom took my keys, I'm grounded.”
    “Then let me drive you.”
    “No, leave me alone.”
He grabs my arm and stops me. “Liz, please.”
I pull out of his grab as fast as I could and almost like a reflex I slap him again. “Sorry.” I say immediately. “I don't like to be touched.” I lied. I don't mind it, but I guess it remembered me of Hayes and something snapped.
“Well, I guess I deserved it. Please let me drive you?”
My mind was telling me no but if I was going to be honest, I really had no desire to walk 7 miles in the rain. I seriously would have walked a miles or two and turned around to go back home. “Fine.”
The whole ride was quiet but it was nice. He had a very nice car, probably nicer than Hayes. I laughed.
    “What?” he smiled.
“It smells like cinnamon in here. Kinda girly, no?”
“Oh, I see what we're doing here. We're judging the boy that is keeping you dry.” he laughed.
    “No, that's not what's happening...”
    “Don't lie to me.”
“Okay, yeah, I'm so hardcore judging you. Why does it smell like you store fresh cinnamon in here, do you sell it too?”
    He shakes his head, smiling.
I gasp. “Do you have a clever name for your company too?”
“Laugh it up, this is the last time I'm ever giving you a ride.”
“I don't know, I like it. It comfortable and I mean... it smells so good.”
He picked up a gum wrapper from the console and threw it at me.
I felt weird getting out of the car, everyone was staring at us and I'm not sure I liked it. “Why is everyone looking at us?” I mumble as we walk into school.
    “Their jealous.”
    “Of what?”
He opened the door for me. “Because I just drove up with a beautiful girl.”
