Nothing to Something

The Universe is big deal. It contains everything. It is law. Well, it would be if Humans weren't so talented at rebelling. I truly do not understand them. Given life, and then demanding more. We were dumb enough to allow it. We found it entertaining. Then We found it annoying. Then it was irritating. Then We hated it. Too bad we can't do anything about it.

3. Nature Child: Part 2

I messed up. I slept in when I should have been pretending. I could not help it! The house was a wreck and I was so tired after cleaning.

It was so warm in my sheet. It seemed like it was made to make me comfortable. Cozy and soothing. It pulled me into dream-land. I had no dreams. The land was desolate and crumbling before my eyes. The ground gave way and I fell into a piercing sound.

My eyes shot open and I saw my clean ceiling. Another sound. It was clay breaking. Is someone breaking plates?

Wait.

Oh no. He is here.

Should I stay here?

No, I should confront him. It is inevitable.

I walked into the kitchen with no visible hesitation. My mom saw me and gasped.

"Hanako, Run!"

The man turned around and peered at me. He took one step and was suddenly over me. He raised his hand. It made a loud snapping sound as it hit my cheek. It stung from the inside out, pinching inside my mouth. Blood welled under my skin and in my mouth. I held my ground.

"Please, I-" Another slap, then a punch.

I fell.

He started kicking my ribs. I thought I heard a crack, but it might have been the pain talking. Mom screamed and went to tackle him. The two started to brawl. Time passed.

Blood was in my eyes and leaking in my ears. I knew they were both gone from the silence that followed the two heavy thumps.

...

I weakly whistled.

I was weakly carried to the hills.
