Its been a week since James 'found' Rose's journal. Remus and Sirius knew something was up for they've never seen James read anything so intently before. Anytime they brought up the journal, James would become defensive or change the subject immediately. At the moment, James had disappeared along with the book. Sirius and Remus took this chance to look at the marauders' map; and saw that James was in the library, but not only that, he was with Naveed, Rose, Prim, Pepper, and Youra.
Naveed was strolling down the corridor; as he passed a corridor he noticed something peculiar. Backtracking Naveed saw James peeking over the side of a wall like he didn't want to be noticed. Walking towards him, "Prongs?" Naveed asked, startling James who turned around quickly and somewhat suspiciously clutching a book in one hand and his cloak in the other. "Prongs...What are you doing?" James frantically ran up to Naveed and covered his mouth and shushing him. Running back over to the corner looking around it to make sure no one heard and sighed in relief. Walking over Naveed looked around the corner and saw only Prim, Pepper, Rose, and Youra talking. Naveed turned looking at James, confusion written on his face.
"It's Rose," whispered James
"What's with Rose?"
"I'm following her"
"I need to know..." James shifted uncomfortably, "If...if she likes me" James hastily said
"To know if she likes you..." Naveed repeated slowly, making sure he heard James correctly. James nodded his head embarrassed. "Which you? You or you as her admirer?"
"H-h-how....?" James asked shocked
"Prongs, I'm me" Naveed deadpanned.
"Oh right" James said feeling stupid.
"You need to return her journal," Naveed said, becoming serious, while taking a step towards James, "I almost told Rose you had it,"
"You wouldn't do that to a friend, would you Talons?" James asked, now nervous and pleading.
"I'm also Rose's friend, Prongs," looking James dead in his eyes, "Do you know how scared she is? She thinks someone is going to use it to blackmail her or something"
"What!" James shouted, then looked around the corner to make sure no one heard him, and than whispered, "You know I wouldn't do that"
"Yes I know, but she doesn't," James lets out a sigh of frustration.
"Okay, let me just figure out how to give it back to her," James pleaded
"Fine. You have a week" Naveed said then walked away.
Remus walked into the library, followed by Sirius. The two walked to the far back of the library knowing the girls would be seated there. As they got closer they saw them,Rose, Prim, Pepper, and Youra, walking their way, in deep conversation. Pepper looked up and saw Remus and smiled at him, which he returned. "Hey/ Hey girls," greeted Remus and Sirius.
"Hello/ Hey/ Ello/ Hi,"
"Have any of you seen James and Naveed?" asked Sirius
"No/ Nope/ Not at all/ Not since earlier,"
"Is something wrong?" Rose asked, slightly worried
"No, not at all; we just need to find him is all," Remus said
"Oh" Rose breathed out in relief
"We'll let you know when we do," Pepper said
"And tell him that you need him," Prim added
“Well, we’ll just be going then…” Sirius said as he started backing up, but stopped abruptly as he walked into something that wasn’t there, and then tried to play it off.
Naveed was currently regretting agreeing to help James find a way to give Rose back her journal. This is because they were now in the library, close enough to the girls to hear them, but not close enough to be accidently knocked into; why, because both of them were under James’s invisibility cloak at the moment. So far, all they heard from the girls was how their days went, and schoolwork. The girls soon got up in started leaving, deep in their conversation, until Remus and Sirius walked up to them.
Naveed noticed how Remus kept trying to make it seem as though he wasn’t staring at Pepper the whole time, with adoration in his eyes; and how Pepper was biting her bottom lip, whenever Remus was near her. Naveed knew Remus fancied Pepper, and that Pepper fancied Remus, both since third year (Remus's third year and Pepper's second year); but he also knew, that Remus wouldn’t date Pepper, fearing she’d be disgusted with him if she knew about his ‘furry little problem’. He had to give Remus a wakeup call.
James tugged on Naveed’s sleeve and gestured for him to follow him, so they could leave. As they past Remus and Sirius, Sirius backed up into James, and almost pushed him to the ground. Sirius then hooked arms with Remus and sped off, out of the library, and into an empty corridor. He then took the map out of his pocket and said, “I solemnly swear, that I’m up to no good," Sirius said and looked at the map and found James and Naveed turning the corner towards them. Removing the cloak, James looked furious, while Naveed had a blasé look on his face.
"What are you two doing?" James asked furiously
"Us. What about you two?" Sirius countered
"I was helping Prongs out; and he wanted to try his idea, which I have to say was very stupid, and a waste of time" answered Naveed, who was receiving a glare from James. "Well it's true," Naveed defended himself
"What were you two trying to do?" asked Remus
"We were trying to find a way to return this," Naveed said, while gesturing to the journal James had in his hand, "And James suggested listening to them to see where we could place it."
"I have to agree with Talons, Prongs," Remus said, "Your idea was stupid"
"And creepy," Sirius added
"Okay so my plan was stupid; what's your plan then, Talons?" James said smug
"Just give it to her," Naveed stated
"That's your big plan; just handing it to her! She'll know I had it-"
"I wasn't finished," Naveed interrupted, "Tell her you found it in Filch's office last night. Plain and simple," the rest of the boys were speechless after he finished; the plan was brilliant and completely simple.
It was almost time for dinner when the Marauders put their plan into action. They planted dungbombs at the entrance of Filch's room, and down the hallway of which it resided. They then charmed it so that when all the students and teachers were in the Great Hall for dinner, they would go off with a loud boom. Now all they had to do was wait.
