4. Chapter Four

Natalia's POV

"How's school going?" The oh-so-familiar voice asked.

"It's... good."

"Why'd you hesitate?" He asked, running his hand freely through his still shaved hair.

"It's different, you know? I miss home, and all my friends."

"I know. But just think... I'm coming home next weekend, and I won't be going back in for a while. It'll be just like old times." Jackson smiled.

"Did you hear about Poppy?"

"No, haven't talked to her since I left, really. Why?"

"She went back to her hometown. She's going to community college back in Jersey. Her dad got moved back there and she went with him. Her mom and sister are still here, though."

"As long as she's happy. How about Christina?"

"Well... her and Nick broke up a couple months ago."

"What happened there?"

"Nick being his usual self. He cheated on her at some party. And it wasn't the first time."

"Yeah. But how about you? How's it going over there?"

"It's going... okay, I guess. We have a little thing to do tomorrow, and then after that, we all go home to see our families. If people survive." My breath hitched.

As if Jackson heard my breath hitch, he moved onto a different subject, "you didn't send me my monthly picture." I frowned.

"I haven't seen him. Jack, he'll be walking when Jason and I aren't there." The door opened to my dorm, and Ronnie walked in. She dropped her books on her desk, took her bun out of her hair and stripped her jacket.

"Class was so boring," Ronnie said, falling onto her bed on the other side of the room. "Am I interrupting?"

"No, you're good. Jackson, I'll call you back later. Please, be careful out there today. I need you alive and okay for next weekend."

"Don't worry about me, T. You have more to worry about, like Tommy and Jase and your grades. I gotta go, love you."

"Love you too." I sighed, closing my laptop.

"Is that the kid in the army?" Ronnie asked. I nodded, before looking down. "Look, I know you're gonna say no, but do you want to come to a party tonight? There are no classes tomorrow."

"No thanks."

"Come on. If you don't like it, then you tell me and we'll leave. You never know, it could be fun." She smiled.

"I don't have anything to wear."

"You don't, but I do. Come on, Natalia, live a little."

"Fine, under one condition."

Tyler stood at my side as we maneuvered through the large crowds of people. Everywhere I looked there were people. In corners, in front of me, side of me, in the back of me, everywhere.

"I thought you didn't do parties," Tyler said, putting my hand in his.

"I don't." I snapped.

"Don't be so pissy." Pissy is an understatement. I'm furious. I asked Tyler to go to this party with me, and of course, him being him, called Addison. Addison called Jason, and now, I have Addison and Tyler watching me like a hawk.

"Addison said you don't have control. So that's why he's here."

"It was one party over the summer! One! And I got a little drunk, and Jason was on a vacation with a couple of his friends from the football team."

"Addison said you almost made out with him."

"I was drunk!" Tyler rolled his eyes before putting his arm up in the air. Addison came strolling over with his hands in his pockets.

"Am I allowed to drink tonight, or are my bodyguards gonna retrain me?" I asked, folding my arms.

"You can drink," Addison replied.

"Good. I need to get rid of some nerves. Someone get me a drink, please."

Between my finals coming up, Tommy learning to walk without me there, Jackson going into something he may not come back from... I just need to get rid of it all. Forget about it for one night.

"Here you go," Tyler said, hanging me the red solo cup. "You owe me five bucks."

"I should've gotten my own drink. I drink for free." I smirked, taking a sip from my cup.

"Natalia, you came!" Ronnie exclaimed, putting her sweaty arms around my shoulders. I could smell the smoke and alcohol radiating off of her clothes. Her hair clung to her forehead as if she was just swimming in the pool, and her eyes were bright red.

"Yeah, I decided to come. Thanks for the clothes, by the way. I really appreciate it."

"No problemo. Come dance with me! There's a bunch of people who want to meet you!" I looked back to Addison and Tyler who's hands were waving me off, telling me to go with my roommate.

"Natalia, this is Frank, Kale, Mike and Sarah. Guys, this is my roommate, Natalia. She's a noobie at these parties." Ronnie introduced.

"And I'm Addison." I turned around and huffed. My bodyguards follow me everywhere, I swear.

"You ruin everything for me," I said, walking away from Addison and the group.

"Did you not see the way those guys were looking at you? I will not allow you to be a victim of whatever they were thinking inside their heads, Talia. I've known you for a while now, and I know how you get at parties."

"Okay! That doesn't mean you have to be up my ass every second!"

"Yeah, it kinda does! You're my cousin's girlfriend, you're like my sister. I won't let no one touch you, hell no!" He exclaimed. "You're phone's ringing. Answer it."

I groaned before pressing the answer button, not paying attention to who was calling me.

"What." I bit. There was no noise on the other side of the line, just heavy, shaky breaths. I pulled the phone away from my ear, taking a look at the name.

"Amber, what's wrong?"

No answer.

"Can you come home?"

"What's wrong, Am."

"He got hurt. He's hurt. They won't tell me what's going on. Lia, I need you." She sobbed.

"Ask then what's going on."

"I tried! They keep telling me I can't come in the room! They... called his family. I... Lia, please."

"Stay on the phone with me, okay? I'm on my way now. Don't hang up the phone. Addison, call Jason and tell Tyler we're leaving."

"What's going on?"

"It's Jackson. Do as I say, or I'll drive myself there! Call Jason! Forget about Tyler! We need to go!"

"Lia," Amber whispered.

"What's going on?"

"He's hurt badly. Really bad. I can't do this, Lia. I can't. No one from his family is here yet. I can't stay here by myself."

"Amber, I will be there in one hour, okay? Stay there, and keep talking to me."

"Hurry, Talia."
