6. Chapter Three

Emma Fay walked briskly along the sidewalk and up to the front doors of West Brook Middle School. She sighed. The doors were locked as always. Emma uttered a few unkind words under her breath. Why did Sarah always have to cause trouble everywhere she went? She bent over to pull a small gold edged silver box out of her handbag. Inside the box, was a pile of silver dust, identical to the mystery powder in Dr. Coop’s tiny vial. Emma took out a pinch of silver dust and dropped it into her empty hand. She raised her hand to her mouth and gently blew the dust onto the school’s doors. Slowly, the doors creaked open. Emma smiled and clicked the little silver box shut. Faerie dust always gets the job done well if you know the proper way to use it. Emma strolled in through the open doors and pulled a rolled up piece of paper out of her handbag, while putting her silver box back in. She unrolled the old paper and studied it carefully. Sighing, she placed it back in her bag and began walking. She was on the opposite side of the school from the security room, her destination. Emma was required by the Faerie Council to find and destroy the video footage from the west wing hall. Why couldn’t Sarah just mind her own business instead of meddling in the lives of humans? Emma soon reached the school security room, which, thank goodness, wasn’t locked. Quietly, she stepped in and was shocked by the size of the room. She was in a room as big as a moderate house bathroom, with four slightly bigger rooms branching off. Above the computer in front of her, was a blue sign with white writing, that said Office/Entrance. Math Wing, Science Wing, East Wing, and West Wing signs hung above the four branching off rooms. Emma proceeded to the West Wing room after a slight pause at the door. Five computer screens were mounted on the wall, each with it’s very own keyboard. Emma walked up to the one with West Wing Hall/Library above it and sat in the chair. She scrolled through the footage dates, until she found the one from yesterday. Then she scrolled through until she found  the video from 8:23 a.m. Fretfully, she watched the video. In it she saw a boy, who must be James, drip blood onto the floor from a broken arm. Suddenly, there was a whirl of silver as a faerie appeared to catch James after he fainted. She laid him on the ground and pulled a little green box edged with silver out of her dress. Out of it, she took a pinch of silver faerie dust and blew it a little too hard. It settled on James’ arm and caused the bone to go back under the skin. The clicking of footsteps filled the narrow hallway. Sarah, the faerie girl, stood up suddenly and disappeared. Emma stopped the video. She had seen all she needed to. With one click of the mouse, the video was gone. A job well done. Heavy footsteps pierced Emma’s silent celebration. Suddenly, a janitor burst into the West Wing surveillance room, shocked to find an indention in the chair for the West Wing Hall/Library and sparkly silver dust scattered around the computer.
