Katie was determined to turn life around. She went to Dumbledore and after many meetings was trusted and hired as a hogwarts professor. She changed her name to Charity Burbage so as not to be recognized. And for a few years, all was well. She was happier than she had ever dreamed of being. At least until the dreadful night of Voldemort's return. She would never forget poor Harry's sobs, or Cedric's empty eyes. Only two years later, her fate was determined.
Here she was, locked away in a dark damp room. Starved and cold. The door opened and she closed her eyes to shield them from the blinding light. Voldemort entered and Katie shrunk back into a corner.
"Of all the people to remain loyal, I had hoped you wouldn't turn." He touched her cheek with his cold long fingers and she winced.
"Ah yes," he muttered, "but of course, a part of me always knew you were trying to get away." Katie didn't answer and the dark lord got to his feet again.
"This will be your last night here," He paused at the door, turning back to look at her. "You're the only thing holding me back now. Once you're gone, power will be within my grasp."
"You have a heart of stone Tom."
"And you're weak Katie. But people no longer know you by that name, do they?" She hung her head and didn't answer.
"So much for love." Tom muttered. Then he slammed the door closed and left her in darkness.
