Lily and James

This is a fan fiction about the story behind Lily and James.
A lot of people give James a hard time for being kind of a bully, so I made this to show James in a better light.

5. the proposal

One year later

Lily was eighteen now and working at a little book store in diagon alley. She grabbed her bag and headed out the door to meet James for dinner. She smiled to herself, she had a suspicion of why James wanted to go out tonight. She tried to compose herself before she got to him.

“Hey James!” Lily kissed his cheek.

“Hey, Lil's.” He smiled “I was thinking we could go to that little tea shop in Hogsmeade.”

“Oh, where we had our first date?” Lily was casual but her insides were doing flips.

“Yeah, that one.” James looked down.

“Sounds great!” Lily knew her suspicions were true.

They arrived at the shop, and James grew considerably more and more nervous as the time went on. They sipped on tea and ate little sandwiches. James stopped the conversation and Lily knew what was going to happen next.

“Lilly, when I first saw you-” Lily spit out her tea from laughing.

“Sorry, James. Sorry. Please continue.” Lily was still swallowing down giggles.

“Umm, okay, when I first saw you I knew that I wanted-” Lily giggled once more.

“I’m sorry James. This is really, really sweet. I just, giggle, sorry. Please, I want to hear this.”

“I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you,” James looked agitated as Lily’s eyes watered from holding back laughter. “What’s so funny, Evans?” He asked.

“I don’t know! I just can’t stop giggling!” Lilys face was red. She could just picture James practicing in the mirror and fixing his hair, and she could imagine him saying the speech to Remus who was pretending to be Lily.

“Fine. Whatever.” James huffed and stuffed a sandwich in his mouth.”

“No, James. I’m sorry. Please tell me what you wanted to say.” She tried to look serious, but couldn’t stop imagining Peter crying after his speech.

“No. You can’t take it seriously.” He looked hurt.

“Come on, just tell me.” Lily pressed on.

“Fine, but no laughing!” he watched Lily nod. “I consider myself the luckiest man-” Lily covered her mouth, trying to stop giggling. “I’m done.” He huffed “Lets just go.” he swallowed his last bit of tea.

“No, just wait. Please, I’m having a great time.” Lily pleated

“I just want to leave.” James stood up.

“James, sit down,” Lily whispered “Just ask me.”

“What?” Lily stood up now to.

“You ruined it. Maybe another time.”

“James, come on.” Lily grabbed his shoulder.

“I want this moment to be special, and you ruined it.” James huffed.

“Fine, I’ll do it then.” Lily said firmly.

“No, it doesn't work like that!”

“Yes it does,” Lily got down on one knee and grabbed James hand “James Potter, will you-”

“Lily, No! I have to ask!”

“Then do it then!” Lily got up.

“Fine,” James pulled out a ring from his pocket and threw it at her, “Lily Evans, will you marry me!”

“Took you long enough!” Lily rolled her eyes and slide the ring onto her finger.
