Lucy and Mark break up and go there separate ways, only to be brought back together in the worst imaginable situation.

6. Sam, interrogating

He stood there, still laughing. Lucy didn’t feel as inferior as any other person in her situation would. But what was her situation?

“And who, may I ask, are you?” She challenged.

“Who am I?” “Fair enough. I am…” He seemed to be considering something. “Sam, yes, Sam will do.”

‘Well, that’s bullshit,’ Lucy thought, trying to look as congruent as possible.

“So tell me,” Sam said breaking the silence “where’s lover boy?”

It took a moment before Lucy could gather her thoughts,

“Mark?” She spluttered, unsure whether he was mocking her or not.

“Look, Mark and I, We’re not… a ‘thing’,” Lucy was desperately trying to explain.

“So I suppose you wouldn’t mind giving us a few answers,” Sam shrugged menacingly.

“I haven’t seen him in a few months,” she looked down feeling as useful as a chocolate teapot.

“I have a very short temper, you know?”

“It’s true, I don’t see him any more,” Lucy was trying to get the point across that they were not together anymore.

‘Can he not take a hint,’ she wondered.

“DON’T LIE!” He roared kicking in the front leg of her chair, and as it lurched backwards he grabbed it by top, forming a cage of his arms around her.

Lucy’s heart stopped momentarily.

“If you don’t start giving me answers, next time, I might not catch you.”

He spun on his heel and strolled out, leaving Lucy balancing her chair- or what was left of it- on her own two legs.
