The next morning Draco and Luna met and walked to the Great Hall together. As they entered the Hall, heads turned their way and people gave them curious stares. Draco kissed Luna's cheek and headed for the Slytherin table as Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin eyes widened to the size of the golden plates in front of them. When Luna sat down at the Ravenclaw table, Neville come up grabbed her hand and lead her out of the hall to an empty classroom.
"Well hello to you too, Neville!" Luna said teasingly, "What's up anyway?"
She cocked her head slightly and Neville couldn't contain his smile.
"You're so cute when you do that you know," He said chuckling slightly.
Luna pulled on her hair a little to hide her panic.
"He's trying to get me to stop seeing Draco! We just got together and people are already trying to get us apart!" Luna thought frantically.
Neville looked at her his arms crossed in front of him, leaning on the desk behind him, smiling.
Finally he broke the silence, "So when did that happen?"
Luna was confused.
"When did what happen?" She asked her confusion showing strongly on her face.
"You and the Malfoy scum," Neville replied harshly as if he was trying not to show his anger.
Then Luna understood. She leaned heavily on the wall and closed her eyes, sighing as she sank to the floor, holding her head in her hands.
"It just started officially today, but he asked me out a few weeks back," She said softly to the floor.
Neville came over and sat down next to her, resting his hand on her knee.
"Why?" He asked, she could hear the hurt in his voice when he spoke, "what's he got that I don't? I mean he's a Slytherin for Merlin's sake!"
Luna glared at him. "It doesn't matter!"
She cried before weakening and flung her self into his arms.
"Oh, Neville!" She squealed as she started sobbing.
Neville had never seen her cry before and seemed a little taken back before he hugged her and stroked her hair soothingly.
"Your like a brother to me and we might lose that..... I don't want to lose that," she said softly.
"So I have no chance with you? He got there before I did?" Neville asked his hurt and pain clearly heard by Luna.
"I'm sorry, Neville," Luna said letting go of the front of his robes and holding his hand.
He squeezed her hand tightly.
"Then please forgive me for this... If I've lost you I have to do this.... Just once....." His voice trailed off as he adjusted his position so he was facing her, leaned forward, and kissed her full on the lips!
She barely registered what was happening until the door slammed open seconds later with a BANG! And there stood an unsettlingly angry Draco Malfoy. Neville jumped to his feet and Luna sat there gasping for breath. Her face was a shade of magenta worthy of Ron.
"I knew it!" Draco shouted even though Neville was only three feet away, I knew you were after my girl the second you left!...And now this!"
"Draco, please!" Luna said, wincing at the harshness of his voice, "It's not what it looked like-"
Draco cut her off with a yell in a tone of voice she never wanted to hear again, "I'll get to you next!"
His tone was deadly and filled with hatred and anger. He looked to Neville, but he was gone.
"Draco, please!" Luna cried tears running down her face, but Draco gave no sign that he heard her, leaving without a word, not even so much as a backwards glance at the now sobbing Luna.
She fell to her hands and knees tears dripping at a rapid pace down her face. When she could no longer bare it she let out an earsplitting scream that could be heard throughout the castle. She fell back to the ground of the classroom her body racking with sobs. She was dead to the world all the happiness she had felt only that morning had left along with Draco. Luna was numb with unhappiness and doubted she would ever be happy again.
