Sometimes silence speaks louder than words.

1. Chapter One

I looked across the freshly-polished floor to the wall of mirrors. I stood up on the tips of my toes, then fell down and stood on my heels, and repeated it over and over.

Hurry up, I thought. I don't want to have to wait any longer.

Today was the day when I would finally get to meet my new dance partners after five years of watching their dance videos online. The dance studio had reserved six hours for us to practice for today. Thirty minutes that we could have been practicing had already been used up waiting.

I am getting tired of this, I thought.

Toes, heels, toes, heels, toes, heels.

I checked the time again. An hour that we could have been practicing was gone.

I was irritated. I sped up. Toes heels, toes heels, toes heels, toes heels...

"If they aren't going to show up," I said loudly and angrily, "maybe I should just--"

The door opened at that moment, revealing the dancers. "What were you saying?"
