We got to Lily’s her white bug was parked in the driveway, so I walked in and headed to her room where I found her and Stevie cuddling on her bed. “Gross!” I said wrinkling my nose. She stuck out her middle finger. “Deal with it, Blondie” she tossed a pillow at me but Justin quickly caught it. “Nice reflexes!” Stevie began. “Ever played baseball?” he stared at Justin. Lily was the star pitcher of her softball team, and Stevie was the star pitcher of the baseball team, they were the perfect couple. Justin shook his head, “No, I’m more of a Guitar player actually.” Both Lily and Stevie smiled then looked at me. “Amy is a singer and a pianist.” Lily spat out. “You two are both musically inclined.” She stared at me. My face began to heat up. Damn it Lily. Can’t you keep your mouth shut? I thought. She winked at me; does she honestly believe she is helping? I scowled at her, what is the point? Nothings going through that thick scull, I bet she doesn’t even need a helmet for softball.
“What movies are we watching?” I asked trying to break this awkward cloud that seemed to form in the hot pink painted room. Lily slipped in Friday the 13th and turned off the lights. We all sat down eating popcorn and watching the bloody film. There were also plenty of sex scenes; I bet Lily picked a movie like that on purpose to make me uncomfortable. Before I knew it the movie was over and Lily decided to play truth or dare; Lily picked Justin. “So new guy, truth or dare?” Justin picked truth, Lily asked if he had a crush; Justin answered yes. Justin looked at me, “Truth or dare Amy.” He asked “Dare.” I said excitedly, waiting for a crazy stunt. Justin cleared his throat. “I dare you to kiss me.” He looked into my eyes. My stomach flipped, my heart plummeted, Lily and Stevie looked equally worried. Justin looked at our shocked expressions and quickly looked down. “I’m sorry if I went too far.” He said as he stood up. “Where are you going?” I asked. “Home.” He replied. “No! Please don’t go.” I grabbed his hand. He sat back down. “You have to tell me what is going on, why students avoid you, why you are reluctant to respond to my flirting, when I know you like me. What is going on?” he looked into my eyes. I swallowed the lump in my throat and began to speak.
“I have a very shady past, it all started when I turned 13. My boyfriend Scott and I kissed all the time, but the day after my 13th birthday was our last kiss. We went to the movies; he kissed me, this blue mist like light seeped out of his mouth and into mine.” I said, Lily chimed in. “Her eyes turned bright glowing blue, and so did the veins in her face.” Stevie nodded. “We were both there, and saw it all.” He said softly, holding Lily’s hand. I continued, “The feeling was indescribable, I could see colors I didn’t even think existed, I could hear all of the heartbeats in the arcade, all of them speeding up at the sight of Scott’s dead body lying on the ground, the screams were so loud, like I was hearing a frequency that didn’t even exist. I felt strong, I leaned back and grabbed the chair, but I bent the metal with my grip.” I said looking at my hands, recalling that terrible day. I looked at Justin and I saw his eyes start to tear up. “You probably think I’m crazy.” I looked away. “No!” he raised his voice. “I don’t think you’re crazy at all! What you are describing to me sounds like the powers of a Succubus.” He said staring at me, I raised my eyebrows. Do I look like a sex demon? I thought, he laughed, almost as if he read my thoughts. “I know it sounds crazy, but they exist in lore all around the world, what you just said to me sounds like you read it right out of a book, almost exactly.” He looked at me. “You think I’m crazy now, huh?” he twitched his hands. I shook my head negatively. “I’ve heard crazier theories about the origin of my… dilemma.” I smiled at him.
Stevie and Lily passed out in her bed while Justin and I sat up talking. “Had and chest pains today?” he asked. “No, why?” he shook his head. “No reason.” He looked at me. “What time we you born exactly?” he asked. I shrugged my shoulders. “I’m adopted; I have no clue, never really asked. I don’t have any hospital records of my birth, Mom and dad said I was given to them in a hurry when I was two, almost as If I never existed in the eyes of the government.” He nodded. It was 11:45, I felt a little tired, but didn’t want this conversation with Justin to end. “My mom says I was left on their porch in a basket, with a note saying my name was Kimberly, they were model citizens and applied to adopt me. My older sister Ruby was there however, she was ten, she remembers my mother preparing for a new babies arrival weeks before hand, she remembers my mom already having my name picked out, she remembers sitting at the top of the staircase as a beautiful Blond woman held me in her arms and kissed me goodbye. Pearl and Alex don’t remember it that well, they were only six. My mother thinks we all believed her story.” Justin looked at me, and my chest felt like it was stabbed, the same feeling I had on my thirteenth birthday. I held my chest, and looked up at the wall clock; it was 11:54, the same exact time it happened when I was thirteen”
“Amy? Are you okay?!” Justin rushed to my side. I nodded; he stared at me with the look of complete and utter concern. Justin bent down and kissed my lips, sending energy through my entire body, the pain stopped, I then woke up. I quickly rushed over to Justin to make sure he was still alive, but he was nowhere to be found; his blankets where folded and a note lay ontop of them. Thank God it was just a dream, I thought I had killed him… my mind raced. The note read;
Sorry I had to go; my brother needed me to help out around the house, planned on waking you up but you looked so peaceful. Text me please.
He left his phone number; I added it to my contacts and this is how the conversation went.
J- Amy? .
J-How are you?
A-I’m good, still at Lilys house.
J- Yeah? Im helping my brother unpack some things.
J-Thanks for inviting me to the party, I had so much fun… wanna hang out again later tonight? We could go out to eat or something.
A- Yeah sure.
J- Ok, when do you want me to pick you up?
A- Anytime is good for me.
J- How about 7?
J-It’s a date ;)
Holy Crap, I just got asked out on a date, wow. I read back over the messages to make sure that really just happened, I sent a screen shot of the conversation Lily, she can read it when she wakes up. I grabbed my stuff and headed out the door, the walk to my house was roughly 2 miles, we would ride our bike back and fourth when we were kids. I walked home and entered my front door, my younger brother, Peri, was playing a first person shooter video game. Peri was about my height with shaggy shoulder length brown hair. Peri is the only one of my siblings who aren’t adopted, he looks just like my mother, he was a pregnancy that my mother expected to be another miscarriage, she didn’t prepare, she didn’t come up with names, she treated him like a fetus that was going to die like all the others, not a baby that would live. Once Peri made it past 4 months and they could determine the gender, she had hope, my father however did not. My brother was born at almost 7 months, he was roughly 4 pounds, he had a lot of time to spend in the prenatal unit, but he was strong, despite the severe asthma, he was healthy. Peri was a miracle. 1 out of 12 pregnancies that survived, mom and dad were very protective over him in his infant years, but after that he was treated like the rest of us; Peri was only 3 years younger than me, so we were a lot closer than my other siblings. Ruby, Alex, and Pearl were all very close. Mom just turned 48 but has baby fever; she is adopting again, a baby who is almost 1 year old, born in March, his name will be Jasper. My parents are well known among the adoption community, they donate whenever they can, my dad is a pediatrician and my mom is a youth councilor, they make good money.
I got a little off track, sorry, anyways I saw Peri playing videogames and ruffled his shaggy hair. “Hey Amy.” He said smiling. “Is your homework done?” I asked him, he nodded. I smiled, “Where’s mom?” I asked, she didn’t work on Saturdays. Dad did until 2 p.m. “Kitchen.” He said not taking his eyes off of the flat screen. I walked to the kitchen, it was big, had a kitchen table, and an island, with black and white checkered Linoleum. I found my mother making plans for the baby shower next Saturday. “Hey mom, can I stay at Lilys house again tonight?” I asked, lying through my teeth. She looked at me. “Yeah sure, I was going to invite you to dinner with Peri, your dad and I.” I shook my head. “No, today is their anniversary, they want me to go out to eat with them, 3rd wheel perks.” She smiled and touched my cheeks. “I was asked a very serious question yesterday.” She said as she sipped her coffee. I nodded, urging her to tell me more. “There’s a newborn, found in a dumpster a few miles from here, they say she is around 3 weeks old. Her birthday would be January 23rd, she doesn’t have any records, nothing. They want me to take her, and I would love to, but I’m getting Jasper in 2 weeks.” I nodded. “Mom, you are 48. You have taken care of twins before; this might be your last chance at another baby. I think you should do it, It will take hard work but you and dad have a breeze with babies.” She nodded. “Your father thinks we should do it, I mean this little girl needs parents with medical knowledge, and she has the same severity of asthma as Peri, she needs parents who can afford her medical bills. I’m going to meet her on Wednesday, I’m taking the day off, so is your father, I’m sure we will love her. I’m just having trouble wrapping my head around another set of babies running around the house, my youngest is 13 for crying out loud.” She sipped her coffee again. I patted moms back. “You are a natural, I think the reason you couldn’t have kids was so you could help the ones who didn’t have parents. Then your reward for that is Peri, I think it’s kind of like your destiny. I’m glad my birth mother gave me up, I am so glad that you are my mother now. You should name her Garnet; she will be a lovely addition to our family.” I kissed my moms cheek and slowly walked back to the living room and up the stairs; I crawled into my bed and opened my laptop. It was only 1:30, 7 could not come fast enough. The more I thought about it the slower time went by.
Finally 6:30 rolled around; mom and Peri left, and I changed my outfit 4 billion times, I was slipping off my T-shirt when I heard a ding on my phone. I stopped lifting up my shirt and rant to my desk where my Cell was placed, the text was from Justin.
J-You ready? I’m in the drive way.
A- Yup, I’ll be right there J
I sprinted down the creaky stairs so fast it sounded like 2 road runners were railing each other. I grabbed my purse and ran out the door. This is going to be my first official date since I became a murderer.
