I pulled on a soft, white, sleeveless dress that flowed out at the ends and a pair of tan wedges with a white bow at the end. I pulled my hair to one side and swept it up into a fishtail braid, allowing my bangs to fall to the side of my face, covering my temples and i tied in a white bow that matches the ones one my wedges at the end of my braid. I finished touching up my makeup, grabbed my bag and headed down stairs. I stepped into the foyer and was greeted by a small child wrapping around my leg.
"Eva!" She squealed happily and clung to my leg. I laughed and scooped the child into my arms.
"Hi Christi." I smiled as I ruffled her blonde curls and stepped into the parlor. My smile soon faded as I saw Calyx sitting elegantly in his large leather chair and at his right side, as always, was Esai.
"Evangeline please have a seat." Esai said unemotionally. I obeyed and sat on the couch across from them as I set Christi on the floor.
"Christianna why don't you go find Eastlyn and see if she needs any help." Calyx said cooly. Christi nodded and quickly ran off leaving me alone with Calyx and Easi.
Caylx opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off quickly, which probably wasn't the smartest move on my part.
"Now, Calyx. Before you say anything, I didn't do whatever it is Luc told you. I swear." I said nervously.
Esai shot me a cold look and I shut my mouth and looked at Calyx who just side and pinched the bridge of his nose between his thumb and his index finger.
"Evangeline, what I was going to say, before I was so very rudely interrupted was that the council and I have met and come to a consensus on your education. We have decided we will allow you to go to mortal school, but of course we have conditions." Calyx explained. A huge grin spread across my face and it was taking all of my energy not to run up and hug Calyx and start jumping up and down in excitement.
"Number one, and this should be obvious, but because you're well you, we have to explain this again." Esai sighed, rolling his eyes. I narrowed my eyes and shot him a deadly glare as I crossed my arms and leaned back on the couch.
"You can't tell anyone about us. No matter how much you think you love them or how trustworthy they seem or even if they're your BFF." He said that last part in a mockingly high voice before returning to his normal, boring monotone voice.
"Number two, you can't bring anyone back here. If you have a problem, you have to figure it out. And number three..." He paused for a second and looked over at Calyx.
"Make sure when you're out saving someone you always either have your second or one of us out there with you." Esai finished and Calyx quickly cut in.
"I cannot stress this enough Evangeline. Please make sure you always have backup when you go out. Paris is dangerous, especially now that..." Calyx paused and shook his eyes. His stature faltered for a second, if even that and I saw his face go soft, and his eyes had a look of sadness and tenderness in them, but only for a brief moment. he regained full cool and collected composure and turned to face me again.
"That's all Evangeline. You may go now, don't want to be late for your first day of school."
I nodded and left the parlor, what had Calyx been so nervous about? What were he and Esai keeping from the rest of us? Thoughts continued to race through my head as I walked out the door and stepped into the sunlight.
