Eventually Mia and Fleur had arrived as well and Fleur had gone straight for the snacks, whereas Mia went straight for the wine that Catalina's brother had bought. Catalina had already had two glasses by herself and Mia was just getting started. Catalina had of course poured me a glass as well, but I had only taken one sip of it. I definitely was not planning on getting drunk since I still had to do my homework and I had school tomorrow. Well we all did, but Catalina and Mia could probably care less considering how fast they ended up drinking that first bottle of wine, leaving the both of them sufficiently tipsy.
"Ella do you have something to drink?" Fleur asked as we came up to me. I was currently sitting in front of the little counter the TV was on, trying to find a movie for us to watch. The girls had suggested a horror movie, so I was currently looking though my brother's old collection of horror and thriller movies.
"Yea, we got plenty of water coming out the faucet." I laughed not glancing at her once.
"Ha ha. Funny, Ella." She slapped the back of my head playfully anf laughed a little herself. I guess I was kinda funny.
"We got milk and soda in the fridge." I smiled up at her. "Hey, do you wanna watch The Blair witch project, Sinister or The Woman in Black?" I asked holding out the three movies. After reading the back of 35 different horror movies, these seemed to be the scariest ones and I knew that was the goal - to find the scariest horror movie.
"Uhm I don't know," she said and pulled at her shoulders a little. "Sinister I think," she then said and smiled at me. I was glad one of the girls finally had given me an answer rather than saying 'it's your TV, you decide'. Fleur quickly made her way to the fridge to get something to drink. I supposed she had eaten too many salted chips. Those can get you quite thirsty after all.
I was just putting the movie on when Mia suddenly squealed out of nowhere and had us all turn our attention towards her, instantly asking what was going on. I got on my feet faster than a lightning thinking she had seen a spider or something like that. Call me pathetic, but spiders creep me the hell out, so don't judge.
"Quoi?!" Fleur almost screamed and and dropped the chocolate bar in her hand. In case you were wondering 'quoi' is french and means 'what'. Yea, Fleur uses that a lot, especially when being scared. We were all still getting used to Fleur switching to french once in a while. In the beginning we found it weird, mostly because we didn't really have any other french-speaking friends, so that was new when we first met Fleur.
"Jonathan from Biology just texted me." She said smiling all over her face and looking at all of us. Was that it? I mean yea Mia had the world's biggest crush on Jonathan since freshman year, but... I had honestly expected something a little more exciting. "Oh yeah sorry," she added shaking her head. "Mike is throwing a party. Jonathan said we should come."
Catalina looked at Mia for a little bit with a skeptic look upon her face. Catalina suffered from the infamous resting-bitch-face. Not saying a word Catalina poured some more wine for both her and Mia. She filled a third glass too, probably for Fleur. "Well if we're going anywhere, we're finishing this bottle of wine first." She said with a hard tone, but we all knew she was just joking. Mia instantly started jumping up and down like a 5 year-old in a bouncy castle at a birthday party. Fleur grabbed the third and last wine glass in excitement and took a sip.
"You guys... I still have to do my homework and so on?" I said looking at them a little disappointed. I had already told them that I wanted to finish my homework, which would be quite troublesome if I wasn't even home.
"Ella," Catalina said and walked over to me. She laid an arm around my neck and looked at me. She smelled like the wine she was drinking and was clearly drunk, which was understandable. "Little tiny Ellie... you can ditch your homework this once. Just this one time." She said and smiled to me while she fluttered her eyes in a begging manner.
"Yea Ella. Think about how much fun it'll be! All our other friends are there!" Mia exclaimed excitedly sitting on her knees in front of me and looking at me with her puppy eyes and pouted lip.
I sighed a little. "Guys what if I my parents find out?" I complained making yet another obstacle.
"Your parents aren't even home, Ella. They're in Montreal until Sunday and today is Thursday. You'll be home before they are!" Fleur said. 3 against 1. I was clearly outvoted.
I sighed deeply and let my shoulders hang loose as I leaned my head a slight bit back. I couldn't believe I was actually agreeing to this. "Okay... we can go." I gave in and all my friends hugged me in amusement as if they couldn't have gone without me. Catalina poured some more wine in my glass and handed it to me. Not wanting at all to be even the slightest bit drunk, I pulled a classic and poured the wine in my glass into the soil of a potted plant close to me meanwhile the other girls were busy drinking their wine. I don't think anybody noticed me since nobody said anything.
The girls immediately started exchanging clothes with each other. They even took some of my clothes. They were discussing how to wear their hair, and from time to time they would even ask me for advice. I was just happy I hadn't yet removed my makeup from earlier, because I wouldn't have wanted ro reapply it now. Since I was in my pajamas I decided to, also, change my clothes. I might be a casual gal, but I'm not that casual. I changed into a pair of denim shorts and a dusty rose pink t-shirt that I tied at the waist. My stomach was a little visible, but nothing too bad. Getting annoyed by my long hair I decided to put it in a pony tail to keep it as far away from my face as possible.
"Will you girls ever be done getting ready? It's a casual party, not prom." I said and laughed as I crossed my arms and leaned against the doorframe to the living room where Fleur was braiding Catalina's hair.
"Will you chill?" Catalina laughed and flinched as Fleur pulled at her hair to get the braid as tight as possible. "You didn't even wanna go in the first place - ouch! Fleur, I said tight not bald!" Catalina cried out as Fleur pulled at her hair again.
"Stop whining," Fleur laughed and kept pulling Catalina's hair to make the braid tight. "I'm almost done anyway, and then we can go."
"Yeah if Mia is done with her eyeliner yet." Catalina snickered and nodded her head towards the bathroom. The door was ajar and I assumed Mia was in there.
"I heard that!" Mia yelled. "And I'm almost there, if you must know," she added and kicked the door close, apparently not wanting to hear any more of Catalina's remarks.
Fleur finally finished up Catalina's hair and it was so tightly braided that Catalina almost looked like she got a face lift. I couldn't help but giggle a little to myself by the look of her now insanely tight face. "I seriously can't move my face," Catalina giggle and turned her head to look at Fleur, who almost instantly handed her a hand-held mirror so she could see herself. I studied herself from every possible ankle before finally thanking Fleur and turning around to hug her.
Mia came out of the bathroom shortly after with her makeup on and she truly looked like she was going to galla party or something. But that was typical Mia. "Are we ready to leave?"
We arrived at Mike's house, and I can honestly say that I didn't expect for the party to be so big. When we first got inside I actually started thinking that it could only be a matter of time before the police shut the party down. It was nothing like those enormous parties you see in highschool movies. Those are a just a tad exaggerated, but there was a decent amount of people here. As far as I could tell only seniors though. I spottet some people I didn't know and assumed that they were from other schools in the district. Probably still all seniors.
"Mia! You made it," Jonathan blurted out happily when he came from the living from and laid eyes on Mia. I couldn't help but shortly glance at Catalina, smile and shake my head a little. It was so clear that Mia and Jonathan had always been crushing on each other, but none of them ever had the balls to make a move.
Mia and Jonathan spoke for a while. Mildly flirting with each other like middleschool kids. It was kinda cute in some way. When Jonathan finally realized that the rest of us were here too, he politely apologized for not saying hi, and asked us if we'd like a drink. Catalina, Mia and Fleur of course was not gonna say no to a drink, and I'd be lying if I said they didn't look at me like I was super lame when I said that I'd be fine with just water. Jonathan looked at me like he was a little confused as well. I mean he probably was, but I really was fine with water.
We got to the kitchen and Jonathan handed the girls some red plastic cups with some alcohol containing substance.I would be willing to bet $100 that I'd end up being the only sober person in this house. Big sigh... why did I agree to this again?
"Are you sure you're okay with water, Ella?" Jonathan asked with a smile on his face while waiting for the water coming out of the faucet to become cold. I simply nodded and placed my elbows on the kitchen counter behind me, leaning slightly against it.
"Thanks." I said once he gave me the water after protesting for a while. Catalina, Fleur and Mia had left to dance almost straightaway after they had gotten their drinks from Jonathan, so it was just me left in the kitchen now. I had told the girls that I'd join them once I got my water, but I think we all know that wasn't gonna happen. Not that I couldn't dance, I was just not the type to do it very often.
Eventually Jonathan left the kitchen as well and it was just me alone there. It was clear to me that the party was definitely in the living room and I wasn't doubting either that my friends were currently having fun meanwhile I was here in the kitchen avoiding all kinds of intoxicating fun.
I found myself staring into empty air when I suddenly realized that loud, deep-voiced roars were coming my way. I shifted my attention to the hall and soon appeared before me the infamous and admired Justin Bieber, whose accomplishments as a womanizer had earlier come to my knowledge.
When he walked by me I found my gaze was locked on him from the second he appeared. Even the way he walked radiated with confidence. The way he looked so casual yet handsome as ever in a light beige hoodie and a black cap covering the lengths of his blonde hair. He had the temple tip of his sunglasses secured between his gritted teeth. Had anyone else done that I'd have thought it was strange, but him... with all this confidence he had... I didn't think for one second it was weird.
I furrowed my brows together briefly when he looked at me for a short second. He barely even glanced at me, but enough for me to notice him looking. Me? I couldn't take my eyes off this guy, and I had no idea why, because I really, really wanted to.
Once he was finally out of sight I had to take a moment to myself. I felt as though my body had been penetrated and suffused by his aura. What was it with this guy?
Fleur was currently dancing with Catalina - completely avoiding guys, meanwhile Mia was busy half talking and half dancing with Jonathan. Mia was usually not the type to shy out, but with him she completely did. I had to say a prayer and hope for them that they would eventually be together. I had just decided to leave the kitchen and join the party. Sort of.
"So why is it exactly that you're not on the dance floor?" a soft yet raspy voice spoke with impeccable confidence. It had to be him. I turned my head a slight bit to see the owner of the voice and surely enough, it was him. Justin. He was leaning carelessly against the wall with one of the red cups in his hand. He was looking at me. Not shying away even for a second even though I was looking straight back at him.
"Why would you care whether or not I'm on the dance floor?" I replied. He chuckled a little and looked me straight in the eyes with a cocky smirk on his face.
"Because I'd love to see you enjoy yourself." He said. Not even flinching a bit. I raised my brows in surprise. Enjoy myself? What was that suppose to mean? I couldn't help but cross my eyes and take my eyes off him for a second. Why did I suddenly feel like I had to think about my next move?
"And what's that supposed to mean?" I asked and looked at him once again. His eyes were now locked on the people dancing. Including my friends.
He turned his head slightly and looked at me. I awaited his reply. "You've been by yourself all night. And I don't suppose you don't know anybody here," he said. "So don't just stand here and be stiff. Loosen up!" He said and shook his shoulders a little loosely. I felt that what he had said was rather rude, but maybe he was right. After all I spent the first hour and a half in the kitchen before I went to the living room and spent yet another hour just standing here.
I pressed by lips together and nodded a bit before I parted my lips again and took a sip of my water.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see him straighten himself up so he was no longer leaning against the wall. I tried my best not to look at him. Suddenly he was standing in front of me. Looking down on me and I was looking up at him slightly confused as to what he was doing.
"I'm Justin by the way," he said and took his hand out of his pocket and reached it towards me. I liked how politely he presented himself.
"Ella." I simply replied with a slight smile. His smile was rather charming and his eyes looked so welcoming, yet they were filled by darkness. By mystery and by danger.
