I sat in my room sulking. It was about 9.30pm now and my mom was still pissed at me for slamming the door. I didn't care much about it, I was mad at her for not letting me go to Justin's party. I had taken out some homework of mine just to keep myself busy. I didn't want to think about Justin's stupid party or my stupid mother who didn't want to let me attend this party. Of course she didn't. She had already decided not to like Justin because the sweater thing. Never had I heard anything as ridiculous. Would she rather I freeze to death?
I was very deeply focused in my homework when my phone suddenly made a buzzing sound on my night stand. I must've forgotten to turn it off. I simply shook my head over it. It was probably Mia or Catalina anyways. Fleur didn't text much, so I'd be surprised if it was her.
Having an IPhone, getting a text message and not opening it was the worst. After about two minutes my phone buzzed again, reminding me that I had gotten a text. I groaned a little in annoyance to myself and decided to go overthrew and turn off my phone.
Once I got there and picked up the phone, the screen lit up, and a number I didn't recognize that texted me. What?
'It's 9.40 now babe, you not coming to my party? ;)' the text said. It had to be Justin.
'No. My mom won't let me go, so I have no ride. Sorry.' I replied. I pressed the button to shut off the phone, but something inside me wanted not to turn off the phone. Besides I already had all my homework done. No need for checking.
My phone buzzed again in my hand. 'I heard strict parents create sneaky kids ;)' the text said. What? Was he indicating that I should sneak out and come to his place?
'Justin... I can't just sneak out...' I instantly replied. I waited impatiently for his next reply.
'Of course you can! They'll never know!' he said. He apparently didn't know what strict parents were like.
'Justin...' I simply replied. I didn't know why I replied that. One part of me wrote it begging for him to stop trying to make me do it, and the other part of me wrote it pleading for him to convince me.
I felt nervous. My hands got a little sweaty as I waited for his reply.
5 minutes passed by and nothing had happened. My phone hadn't made the slightest buzzing sound at all. Not even a bit. I guess the first part me had had it's prayers heard by some higher power. I put the phone back on the nightstand and returned to my homework, but as soon as I pulled out my chair and was about to sit down on it, I received a text message. I nearly jumped on top of my bed laying across it and reaching for my phone.
'How far is your house from your school?' the text said. What an odd question.
I replied with trembling fingers. 'Um about 1 mile if I take a shortcut through the forrest, why?'
'Take that shortcut then. Cooper is picking you up at your school in 35 ;)' said the next text that rolled in on my phone. Jesus, he was actually expecting me to sneak out. And he had told Cooper to pick me up. Did I really have a choice now? And how was I gonna pull this off?
I couldn't lock my door. My door was never locked, that'd be too obvious. and I'd have to think fast. Come on Ella...
I decided to go out and brush my teeth in the bathroom so it'd seem like I was going to bed, and when I went back to my room, I yelled 'goodnight' down the stairs in a slightly irritated tone, just to let my mom know that I was indeed still mad at her. It was a pretty old trick, but if it had worked for other it could work for me.
As soon as I close the door my heart started pounding. I had 30 minutes to find something to wear, sneak out and actually get to the school. There was very little chance that I'd make it, but I'd have to try. I decided to go with some light, ripped denim shorts from Levi's and a black Guns n' Roses T-shirt that only just reached the my shorts. I tried raising my hands to see if my tummy would then be visible. Yup it would... I ran a hand annoyed through my hair. Well I'd have to go with it, cause I didn't have time for a crisis like this right now.
I quickly put on my dirty, old converse. I only had them in my room because I didn't wear them much anymore. Yea they were pretty much ruined, but they'd have to work for the purpose of today.
Okay, this was it. This was the moment. I had done everything I planned. Said goodnight, I had my phone is my pocket, my sweater on. My pillows were arranged to hopefully look like a body in case someone should peep in.
I carefully opened my window. A slightly cold breeze hit my face as I looked out into the darkness. The moon was up adding just a little bit of lighting to the night. I looked out at the trees. My body was shaking and my heart was pounding like crazy in my chest. Was I really about to do this?
I took a deep breath and swung one leg out of the window. Luckily there weren't any windows underneath my room, so I wouldn't have to worry about that. I turned my head towards the door to my room hoping no one was gonna come in and catch red handed when I snuck out. Every nerve in my body was tense as ever. I was trembling with fear of getting caught and yet a little tiny part of me felt slightly excited about what I was about to do.
I stepped out onto the little piece of roof there was underneath my window. I stood there for a second and just looked inside my room. I was about to close this window and sneak out for the first time in my life. "I guess bad girls have more fun," I said to myself and pulled a little nervously at my shoulder as I grabbed the window frame with my trembling, sweaty fingers and slowly started pulling the upper part of the window down until it was fully closed without a sound.
I looked at the window and took a careful, tiny step back. I did it. I'm out. Well technically I was still here since I was standing on my own roof, but I was almost there. I went to the edge of the roof and looked down. Roughly 11.5ft down. that's not too bad Ella. You can do that. Just... jump.
I took a breath to myself and close my eyes for a second gathering some courage. If I somehow made too much noise I was as good as dead. I took another look down which resulted in me taking a step back. I couldn't. What was I doing? Sneaking out to attend some party? Not a good idea.
No. I was already out here. And I wanted to go. I mean technically I wouldn't be sneaking out if my mom had just said yes. And then I did it. I jumped.
A slightly sharp, stinging pain shot through my shins, on to my knees and my thighs. I made a low hissing sound as I grabbed both my knees with my hands until the pain faded away. I turned my head and looked at my house. It was definitely time to get out of here.
I ran in between the trees looking over my shoulders a few times feeling paranoid that maybe someone had seen me. I ran as fast as I could to get as far away from my house as possible. The chilly wind felt good against my warm skin. My blood was boiling both from the running and from the excitement that spread like a plague in my body. It ran through my bloodstream and through my nervous system filling me up faster than anything. I was almost shivering with excitement and I could feel it every single corner and crook of my body.
I got to the school grounds which on the forrest-side were delimited by a fence to prevent possible animals to get in there. Not sure how much it worked, but whatever. At least it wasn't an electric fence!
I hooked my fingers in the square shaped holes of the fence and was suddenly very pleased with the fact that I was wearing my old converse, since they were very bendable and therefore I was able to fit the tip of the shoe in the holes. I pulled myself up as I pushed with my legs and soon enough I was off the ground making my way to the top of the fence to crawl over it. Luckily there weren't any spikes or other things at the top of the fence, so it was easy enough for me to crawl over, thank god. Once I got over I stood there for a second and admired the fence. I laughed a little to myself. Why I had no idea, I just found this whose experience amusing.
"I cannot believe I just did that," I said and laughed as I got into Coopers car and closed the door. He looked at me with an enormously confused look as he laughed at me while I was putting my seatbelt on. Well they say laughter is contagious.
"Oh you feel bad now huh?" he said teasingly as he put the key in the ignition and started the car.
"Are you kidding?!" I said and placed my hands on the panel in front of me by the glove compartment. "I just snuck out from home!" I exclaimed and kept laughing to myself. "Okay, I need to calm down." I said and tried to calm myself down.
"No why?" Cooper said and chuckled, "there's nothing better than being hype before attending a party." He then said and looked at me for a second before retiring his attention to the road.
"I guess, but I'm so nervous! I don't know anybody except from Justin and you?" I said suddenly realizing that for the first time forever I went to a party without my trusted girl friends next to me.
"Relax," he said laughing as he reached his arm behind him to get something on the backseat. "if you're so nervous take a sip of this." He said and laid a square shaped bottle containing something brown. Liquor I'd expect.
"What's this?" I laughed and picked up the bottle. "Jack Daniel's Old no.7" I read out loud from the bottle. "Bourbon whiskey," I then read. I pulled a little at my shoulder. "I think I'm good," I finished off and laughed a little to myself.
"As you please," Cooper said and chuckled.
