“I don’t know Shirley; leaving the business isn’t recommended; Rob isn’t qualified to make the cakes just yet and would Jeffery be able to fly. The air pressure in the cabin may do something to his ears.’

Actually I thought that you could look after Jeffery for a week.’

“Me how could I; I mean who would run the business.’

Could your mam not look after him; I mean he will be one year old by then. He will be able to start eating solid food bye the time I leave.’

“I will ask her Shirley; what about your mother?’

My mother is too busy since her divorce; I hardly ever see her these days. I only see my father once in a while as well as he’s always out at the Fat Ox with his new found friends.

“You know that we have Mickey and Alison’s wedding in March to attend don’t you.’

“Who could forget; that’s all you’ve talked about since he asked you to be his best man.

“Well you are maid of honour.’

Tom they are only getting married in a registry office just like we did; it’s not some big church wedding or anything.’

“I’m sorry love had it been down to me I would have married you in church you know that; but you were four months pregnant and walking down the aisle with a huge bump would have been embarrassing for both our parents.’

Mickey is like me; he’s not a church goer or anything; he and Alison just want a simple ceremony.’

Look where they are going to live Tom only four doors away.’

“I know, isn’t it great; who would have thought it eh; having my best mate living in the same street again I can’t believe it.’

God, men never see do they.’

“See what?’

“They will never away; we will have no privacy Tom.’

“I thought that you liked Mickey and Alison?’

“I do, I just don’t want to see them every day that’s all.’

“But I grew up with Mickey I’ve seen him every day since I was a kid.’

“Isn’t it time you grew up then Tom?’

“What do you mean?’

“Well if you are not seeing Mickey you are taking about him; Christ is there no time for just you and me.’

“We have the rest of our lives together Shirley.’

“I think that you are suffering from depression love; you need to go and see Dr Gofton.’ I will make an appointment for you tomorrow.’

“Tom I do not need to see a bloody doctor; there’s nothing wrong with me. It’s you who needs to talk to someone.’

“We’ve only been married five minutes and you want me to give up my best friend already.’

I haven’t asked you to give up your friend Tom; I just want you to spend a bit more time with your own family that’s all.’

Mickey is going to think that there’s something up if I stop going around to his house.’

“No he won’t he’s most probably hoping that you don’t come around.’

“I don’t think so Shirley.’

Look he’s getting married in four months and Alison will be saying just the same as me once a baby comes on the scene.’
