They had packed their cases that evening before going out and left clean things to wear for the way home on the chairs.
Tom was up first and woke the rest.
“What time is it?’
“Its gone eight o’clock if we don’t go down now we will miss breakfast.’
“You go down and grab our breakfast and plenty drinks for the plane we will follow you down mate.’
Tom closed the door on his way out as Mickey went to the toilet.
By the time they all showered and changed it was quarter to nine. They came down stairs and sat down and ate the breakfasts that Tom had put out for them.
“Well it’s been a fabulous week and I’ve enjoyed every minute.’
“I’m definitely coming again next year.’
“Me too said Alison.’
“I might be going to America said Shirley, Pat Devlin has asked me to come over and stay in Manhattan so I will have to wait and see.’
“Nothing stopping you from coming though is there Tom.’
“I don’t want to be playing gooseberry here Mickey.’
“Alison wouldn’t mind would you?’
“Not at all, we are all friends’ right.’
“Yes.’ but it wouldn’t be the same without Shirley would it?’
“Well you know your welcome to bunk up with us if you want to save a few bob.’
“Did you get us some drinks for the plane?’
“Yes, there’s six there.’ Shirley said she would get some meat and cheese and some bread rolls to make sandwiches because they had a three hour wait at Palma Airport.
Mickey was now onto his third cup of tea when they spotted the cleaners coming around. Quick lets get those sandwiches made before they get to our room.
Shirley grabbed a plate and filled it with ham and cheese then Alison got some rolls, butter and four beef tomatoes. Mickey and Tom carried the drinks back to the room where the two girls set to work making the sandwiches and placed them into the Tupperware that they had brought with them. Mickey carefully put the drinks into a carrier bag then they cleaned up before taking their cases down stairs and handing in the keys at reception and the girl kindly gave them their passports and wished them a pleasant journey back home.
The coach wasn’t coming for another hour and they watched as another coach pulled in with more tourists, all dragging their cases to the reception; all eager to begin their holiday.
“It must be a nonstop influx of people coming and going here.’
“Yes I guess they only have a few short months in which to make money from the tourists. The hotel closes in October and doesn’t reopen until April the following year.
“What do they do in the meantime?’
“The hotel is painted; the pool emptied and cleaned all the chairs are scrubbed as well as the sun loungers. There’s all the gardening to do as well. Actually there’s loads of work to keep them going until the following year.’
Other people were now checking out of the hotel and milling around the entrance waiting for the coach. When it arrived Tom made sure that they got the front seats so that they would be the first off to check in at the airport in Palma. The journey to the airport had a certain conclusion to it everyone was more quiet now the excitement was now over and the fight back to normality would begin. Whilst on holiday people
