It was nearly eight o’clock when the girls arrived both looking very smart in their white open necked blouses with a wide collar blue cardigans, Levi Strauss Jeans with four inch turn ups, bobby socks and base ball shoes.

Mickey went to the bar and bought a bottle of Double Maxim and two half glasses.

“You managed to get out then said Tom to the girls as Mickey stood at the bar.’

“Yes but I think my dad was a bit suspicious said Shirley.’

Don’t worry about him he will never know that you’ve been in here.’

“It’s a bloody good job that he drinks in the New York Club, he and my mam have gone there tonight with Alison’s father and mother

“That’s good then isn’t it?

“How’s that?’

“Well you won’t have to rush home will you.’

“As long as I get home before twelve they wont know as I will just go to bed.’

“Are you still babysitting tomorrow night Alison.’

“I expect so; you are coming around aren’t you?’

“I don’t know; yet Mickey may want to go elsewhere.’

“Do you always do what Mickey says then or can’t you think for yourself.’

Mickey’s been my mate since we were kids in nursery together.

“Maybe you will end up getting wed one day then smirked Alison as Mickey returned with the bottle and poured it into the two half glasses.

Alison took a drink from the glass but when Shirley tried she made a face and said that it was too strong for her.

I will get you a lemonade and you can make a shandy how’s that.’

Tom moved out of the seat then went to the bar.

Tom says you might not be coming baby sitting with us tomorrow night Mickey.’

“Well that depends doesn’t it.’

“Depends on what exactly?’

“Well it’s not my idea of a night out if you know what I mean.’

“I will make it worth your while if you come along.’

“So I’m on a promise then?’

“You’ll have to wait and see won’t you.’

“What about Tom though.’

“Leave Tom to Shirley; he’ll be alright.’

Tom returned with the lemonade and another glass and tipped half of the beer into it then poured the lemonade into both of the others.

“Taste that now said Tom.’

“Shirley picked up the glass and took a sip then nodded her approval.’

“Right then who’s for a dance said Alison.

They all got up to dance to an Elvis number called “Hound dog” both Tom and Mickey had the floor taken as they threw their partners over their shoulders and under their legs. A round of applause went up after they were finished.’

Then Little Richard sang Tutti fruity and again Tom and Mickey danced the shoes off most of the kids there. Other older women were asking them to dance and of course both lads obliged them. Then it turned a bit sour after one girl turned and said why don’t you both come and sit with some real women not these two school girls.’

Alison was out of her seat in a flash and had one of the girls by the hair and proceeded to drag her onto the floor and was punching her in the face with the other hand.

Shirley was forced to help when the friend of the other tried to get hold of Alison who would not let go of the girl’s hair. Shirley threw the shandy she had and it went all over the other girl then laid into her.
