I was in the Girls dormitory, getting ready for the dance. I was so excited; I had, after all, liked Scorpius for a really long time. I had one worry: Dad hated Scorpius and his dad, and already didn't like the fact that we were friends. What would he say if he found out that I was going out with him? But I didn't want to worry about that right now; I was getting ready for an awesome night with friends. Since we all go home tomorrow, this dance lasts all night.
"You look beautiful, Rose!" Molly, my cousin who's my age, says. And I can't help but agree with her. I've got my hair put in a long braid, that she was working on tying up in a complicated bun. Her dress was a pale yellow, and had much the same design that her mother's dress for the Yule Ball had. She had small, high heeled yellow shoes, and a small yellow flower in her hair.
"So do you, Molly." I say, smiling at her. Molly's red hair has been left down, and she's wearing a very simple white dress, that's nonetheless beautiful. "Who are you going with?"
Molly blushes and grins. "Fred II. I know he's my cousin, but I couldn't get a date, and niether could he, so we decided to go together."
"Aww, that's cute!" I say, making her smile bigger.
"Now I have to go, or I'll be late for meeting Scorpius." I say. She smirks at me.
"I always knew you two'd end up together. Everyone did." Molly says, which makes me blush.
"No they didn't!" I deny her claim.
"Yes they did. Ask anybody." Molly says. "And you can't go yet."
"Why not?" I ask.
"You're not wearing makeup yet." Molly says, as if it's obvious.
I groan. "I don't want to wear makeup!"
"Well, you promised me that whenever there's a formal occasion, I get to do your makeup. It's a formal occasion, so I get to do your makeup." Molly insists.
"Fine, but hurry! I'm going to be late." I say, so she hurries. Even so, she manages to give me a full face of makeup. Luckily, it doesn't make me look that different.
"Okay, now I'm going." I say, and hurry out the door before she can stop me for anything else.
Once I make it down to the Entrance Hall, where I'm meeting Scorpius, I search for the telltale blonde of either him or Allie, who I'm also friends with, and find both of them next to each other, and recognize Albus's messy black hair, which looks exactly like Uncle Harry's.
"Hi Scorpius, Albus, and Allie." I say. The The Slytherin and Hufflepuff who are going together smile and say hello back, but Scorpius is just staring at me. I look uncertainly at Albus, who elbows Scorpius, who shakes himself and greets me. We take each other's hands and wait for the doors to the Great Hall to open.
When they do,at exactly eight o'clock, everyone gasps. The entire room is white, and the floor is covered in everylasting snow. There's a large dance floor, however, which is made of ice that has been charmed so it acts like glass and isn't slippery. There's tables, hundreds of small circular tables, set with plates and menus. The band The Weird Sisters is currently playing a slow waltz, and Scorpius and I immediately take the floor. He puts one hand on my waist, and I put mine on his shoulder, and we take each other's other hand, and dance. It's graceful, fun, and beautiful. It's not long until we're joined by Molly and Fred, and Albus and Allie. Soon after, most everyone is dancing along with us. Once the song is over, Scorpius and I walk over to a table to get something to eat, and we're shortly joined by Albus and Allie.
"Hi Allie! Enjoying the dance?" I ask, while Scorpius and Albus start whispering together about, whatever it is that boys would whisper about.
"Yes!" Allie says excitedly. Leaning in, she whispers to me, "Albus is a really good dancer. Do you know where he learned that?"
"No." I say. "Scorpius is, too."
"So, want to go have a girls dance?" Allie asks, as Molly and Fred walk over, and The Weird Sisters strike up a much jazzier song.
"Sure. Scorpius, do you mind?" I ask.
"Not at all." Scorpius say, and Albus adds, "You girls go have fun."
Molly looks at Fred, who nods, and the three of us take the floor. We go crazy, dancing and jumping, talking and having an amazing time through three songs, all of which are extremely jazzy. When we return to the table, we find that the boys haven't left, and are talking about, surprise surprise, Quidditch.
"Don't you three want to talk about anything else?" Molly teases.
"Not really." They say in unison, before grinning at each other.
"Well, I'd like a dance with my cousin." I say, grabbing Albus's arm. "I'm coming back for you, Fred!" I call over my shoulder, as Albus and I start to dance.
"So, how are you enjoying the dance?" Albus asks me.
"It's been amazing!" I check the time. "I can't believe it's already ten o'clock." I add. "How're you enjoying talking about Quidditch?"
"It's fun, like always." he says, twirling me around. After that, we dance, making idle small talk, before the song ends, and I go through the same routine with Fred, before dragging Scorpius back to the floor for the rest of the night.
At four thirty in the morning, Professor McGonagall insists that we all go to bed. As she's Headmistress, we don't really have a choice. Scorpius walks me to the stairs.
"I had a magical time, Scorpius." I say.
"Me too." He replies. He then surprises me by leaning in and kissing me. I'm a little shocked at first, but then I kiss back. When we break apart, we smile at each other, bid each other goodnight, and go to our separate dorms.
