Naomi

“The… I thought we told you to piss off?” Isaac bellows from the front door.

“You need to get out now,” Mia hisses to Robb and I. I shake my head, refusing to give in. I’ll stand up to Lucifer as myself, whether they wanted me to or not.

“No, we’ll be fine,” I say. “He won’t take me now. He wouldn’t dare.”

“He would, you know he would, you imbecile,” Mia sighs.

“Then let him try,” I challenge.

“I do not care for you, boy, so you may get out of my way now,” Lucifer’s Scottish accent calls out. I shudder at the thought of those eyes looking at me, seeing that I’m in my own body again. I hate the thought of him trying to get me back, the thought of him threatening to kill all three of the people I care about in this place burns me with rage.

“Get out of my house!” Isaac yells, but I hear a bang and I hear Isaac struggling. I know I should rush out there and help him out, but that is what Lucifer wants, no doubt. I close my eyes and take Robb’s hand as I hear the footsteps closing in on the lounge.

“Naomi Hart, welcome back to the land of the living!” Lucifer says.

“Screw you, Lucifer,” I respond immediately, my anger rising just by seeing the vessel back in my flat. It’s like it was three months ago now; him in the flat, threatening us. Except this time, it’s different; this time I know what he wants and I won’t let him have it.

I suddenly feel like Gollum: my precious being my life and the lives of Robb, Mia and Isaac instead of the One Ring, and I refuse to let him have what he wants, which is the precious. Except I’m not slimy and small and Hobbit-like, I’m human and… well, human like.

“Screw me? Oh, now Naomi, you know that’s not how that works. You know that well, do you not?”

“Shut up and get out,” I snap back. “We don’t want you here. You’re not getting anything.”

Lucifer chuckles and sits himself on the edge of the armchair, resting his elbows on his knees and arching his hands together. He looks up at Robb and I, chuckling to himself. “When did you find your own body, Naomi? When did you all dig her up, and when did you enter your own body once again? Tell me, what has been going on, Naomi? I am very intrigued.”

I scoff and stand right beside Robb, almost as if I’m trying to move in front of him. He keeps my hand tightly in his, refusing to back down while Isaac and Mia flank us, one on each side. I stare at Lucifer, staring at me from the chair, still with a sly smirk on his face.

“You know, the general rule of thumb is that when someone asks you a question, you reply with an answer,” Lucifer says, moving his hand as he speaks. “And I would quite enjoy an answer to my question, Naomi.”

“Well you aren’t getting one,” I snap. He chuckles to himself and stands from the chair, looming over all of us, probably on purpose. I watch him take two steps towards us.

“You know what I wish from you, do you not, Naomi?” Lucifer asks.

    “Yes,” I say.

“Then you know why I must take you with me, right now, body or no body. I know you were inside that girl Nicole, right from the second I saw her, I could see beyond it, I know the truth, Naomi. I just merely let you have a few days while Death did his mission, and now I must open the fifth seal. I need you, Naomi. You will help me bring this apocalypse. I cannot do it without you, you know that,” he says. I wonder if he’s actually trying it on right now. He doesn’t need me to do it, does he? Not really.

“No, you don’t,” I challenge quietly.

    “Excuse me?”

“You don’t need me, you just think you do. What if you had left me in Hell, how could I help you from down there? You’re Satan, you’re the Devil. You don’t need anyone to help you, other than those horsemen, except they aren’t even human, but the same principle,” I say.

Lucifer chuckles again. Does this guy actually find everything funny or is he just being the cocky shit he usually is? Most likely the latter.

“I am in need of you Naomi Hart, I always have been and will always be in need of you. I need you to come with me now and help me in bringing upon the apocalypse to the Earth so I can fulfil my wish. If I am feeling generous when I am done with you, I may let you live for the rest of the time humanity will have. But yet, I may not. But either way Naomi Hart, you will help me in my mission.”

“And how exactly will I be helping you?” I ask, cocking my head in intrigue.

“That information is not for me to divulge to you right now, Naomi,” Lucifer says with a serious look on the vessel’s face. It’s that look I remember him having down in Hell, the one before he told me the truth of my child, the one he had on his face when he told me of how he wanted me to help with the apocalypse, and then again before he and I… well, we don’t even talk about that any longer.

    “Then no sale,” I say.

“Excuse me?” Lucifer asks. I look at Robb, but he’s too busy glaring holes into the vessel’s forehead or whatever his height allows. “You know, Naomi, this is not up for negotiation. I am in need of you, whether you would will it or not, whether you wish for it or not. I will have you, whether you like it or not, and you will help me in my cause. I care not that you are happy back here and alive, I gave you a few days where I did not press you. This needs to begin soon, and it will begin because I will take you with me.”

“You will not,” Robb says, stepping forward and taking his hand from mine. I sigh and close my eyes in annoyance.

“So, I am not the only one getting bored of this routine. This has been the bane of my existence since I walked into your bedroom all of those months ago now, Naomi. Yes I will, no you won’t, yes actually I will, no, you won’t. It is the most boring argument in the entire history of this planet, and this planet has been around for as long as I can recall now,” Lucifer begins pacing the lounge. “But listen to me when I tell the four of you this: I will come back later, or maybe when you least suspect it, and I will be taking Naomi with me and she will be aiding me with the apocalypse and it will happen. When I next come upon this house, and when I next come across the four of you, that is when I will strike and I will kill you, Robb. I should watch all of your backs from now on. All of you.”

“He won’t come back here, don’t worry,” Isaac says and I just scoff. How can they be so sure? Lucifer will definitely turn up again, we all know he will, and if we’re not careful, he will get what he wants, whether we like it or not.

    “He will,” Robb says.

“Really?” Mia asks. “Not if we stop him he won’t.”

I scoff again. “So after everything, you finally decide to listen to what I’ve been trying to say for the past few days? Lucifer is going to bring the apocalypse unless we stop him. He will kill Robb if we don’t stop him. He will then kill you two, if we don’t stop him. He will kill Nicole, if we don’t stop him.”

“What do you suppose we do?” Nicole asks. We asked her to come over to help us, and seeing as she seems to think she owes me one for sparing her life after I left her body, she’s apparently more than willing to help. That is, until she realises exactly what we’re in for. Robb gives me a look, the two of us knowing the true extent of the danger we’re now in, then he looks at Anna beside him probably giving her the same look.

“I suppose we actually try to stop him. He said Death has already been. That means he’s about to open the next seal, which are the mass martyrs. We need to locate them and stop them from doing it.” I say.

“But then he’ll just find more martyrs. The world is full of martyrs, Nay, you know that,” Isaac says. “What’s the one after that?”

“Natural disasters; floods, earthquakes, whatever else he has planned,” I say. “We can’t leave it till then, that one is when shit starts getting serious, Isaac.”

“Then we need to think of something that will stop the martyrs. How in the world do you guys suggest we stop the entire world of Christian’s to not listen to reason for martyrdom?” Mia demands. I look at Nicole, who just gives me a blank response. Oh, wow, this is going to be hopeless. Only two out of five of us have a proper idea of the shit we’ve been entered to.

“I don’t know, but we need to figure it out quick smart, because once the sixth seal comes along, everyone and everything is royally pissed up the wall. I have no idea how the Hell I’m supposed to help him out in this grand plan, but I can guess it’s to do with the sixth or seventh seal. If we let him get to the seventh, we’ll all be dead and you’ll wished you’d helped out more.” I stand up from the sofa and go to the fridge. I grab some chocolate milk and pour myself some, still wary about the alcohol and pregnancy thing.

“Maybe we need to think about how exactly he’s going to recruit these martyrs. How does someone make someone think about that kinda thing?” Nicole thinks aloud. “We also need to think about how the seal will be broken. Will it be there deaths? Or will he need their blood or whatever?”

I drink some milk. “It’ll probably be something of both. I can imagine the blood will force the seal to occur.”

“What is even the point of this seal? All I’ve ever seen is that according to the Bible, the souls of those Christian’s sacrificed will get retribution. This is nothing like that, Lucifer is using this seal, I don’t get it,” Isaac says.

“None of this has worked exactly how we’ve researched. This is real life, not the Bible, nor is this Supernatural or anything I’ve read. Spare the Horsemen. This is really different,” Mia says. “This is just… Lucifer.”

“That’s him, though, everything is about him,” Robb mutters.

“So, what? We just keep looking around, watching the news, finding out more and whatever? What about his threat about next time he comes back?” Mia asks. I look around at Robb, who looks back with a blank look, his hand reaching out and taking my free hand. He’s worried, yet I see him holding Anna’s hand too. I take my hand back, making sure he can see my face giving him a dirty look.

“Yeah, that’s exactly what we do,” Isaac says for me. “We just have to… be careful.” It falls silent between us while I drain off the rest of my milk and think on this:

Lucifer says he needs me for the apocalypse, but death has already been, and apparently that was down near Brighton or something. He says he’s about to open the fifth seal, which if he’s doing that he won’t need me. So I’m obviously needed for the sixth or seventh seal. The sixth seal is natural disasters, the seventh the whole bowl thing with the angels and they will bring the entire apocalypse thing, whatever. Lucifer threatened that next time he came here, he would kill Robb and take me. Then he told us to watch our backs or something.

“What do you think?” Robb asks me, tapping my hand.

“I don’t know,” I say. “He’ll need me for either the sixth or seventh seal, but I don’t know which one. We can deal with the fifth being opened, but the sixth is when shit starts being real, so I’d rather not risk either. It fucks it all up because I don’t know which seal I’ll be needed for.”

“Then we try and find that out,” Isaac says.

“That’s what I was trying to do, but he wouldn’t give me the stupid information,” I say with an annoyed sigh. “The answer is: I have absolutely no freaking idea.”

“Then we keep searching and looking,” Nicole says. “He won’t win.”

I keep silent about the fact that no one has mentioned the fact that he threatened to kill Robb, spare the one slight mention by Mia. I grip Robb’s hand. Shit is now serious, and it’s now even more personal than last time. There is absolutely no way I’ll let him near Robb to kill him and there’s no way he’s getting me for the damned apocalypse.
