Not Harry Potter

A fanfiction in screenplay format. The Halliday family are a magical family living on Dartmoor. A mum, a dad, three children - a perfect magical tableau of domesticity. But the past cannot stay buried forever. What does a crime committed in Rome in 2001 have to do with the Halliday's? And do the scars from the Battle of Hogwarts ever really fade?

4. Scene 3

EXT - OUTSKIRTS OF LONDON, LATE AFTERNOON

Follow the train as it chugs towards King's Cross Station. The countryside has been exchanged for London's high rises and houses.

INT - PLATFORM 9 3/4, LATE AFTERNOON

Travel across the station; parents wait for their children, younger children laugh and cry - all witches and wizards in various states of wizarding clothing. Pan around to show the train pulling into the station. The station is filled with chatter as the doors open and hordes of children start to get off. Various voices can be heard as the camera focuses on different families.

WITCH

Come along, Keelie.

Your dad's waiting with the brooms.

SMALL CHILD

But daddy...I wanna got to Hogwarts!

FEMALE HOGWARTS STUDENT

I can't wait to get that new spell!

I've heard it can make time slow down!

WIZARD

Where's Isaac? We're in a hurry.

The voices fade away as Morwenna and her friends disembark.

TOBY

I've gotta dash. My mam wants me packed well

before we leave for Canada tomorrow.

LOGAN

(adopting a rather bad Canadian accent)

Watch out for the mooses!

MORWENNA

It's just moose, Lo. Have fun Toby!

The others chorus goodbyes as Toby rushes off towards his parents on the other side of the platform.

IRIS

I wish I was going somewhere exciting this summer.

My brother is working with marine life in Portsmouth.

We're - oh, there he is now! Have a good summer guys!

Bye!

She waves and heads towards her brother.

MORWENNA

Still sounds exciting. What 'bout you, Lo?

Still going on that boat trip?

She turns around from waving to IRIS and LOGAN is halfway across the platform.

MORWENNA

(shouting)

Logan?

He turns around and starts walking backwards.

LOGAN

Oh, yeah. Bye, 'Enna!

MORWENNA

(rolls her eyes)

Bye, squib.

THEA laughs and turns to MORWENNA.

THEA

He's such an idiot.

MORWENNA

But we wouldnt want him any other way!

The two girls link arms and walk further into the platform. It is less busy now, with families leaving through the brick wall back into the real world.

MORWENNA (CONT'D)

Anyway, what about Noah? Have you two kissed yet?

THEA

(blushes)

Well...

MORWENNA
Thea! Tell!

THEA

It was - oh, wait. There's mum. Uh oh.

She does not look pleased.

I wonder what dad did this time.

MORWENNA

(sympathetic)

Still no better? Write to me if things get too messy.

THEA

Thanks, 'Enna. I'd better go. Have a good summer!

MORWENNA

You too. Bye, Thea.

THEA goes towards her mum. MORWENNA watches them as they appear to argue but no words can be heard. Her smile drops off her face as she turns away, looking for her mum.

MORWENNA (CONT'D)

Mum said she'd be here. Voldedamnit.

HESTER (O.S)

What have I told you about saying that?

MORWENNA turns abruptly. HESTER is stood behind her, wearing loose robes and a slight smile.

MORWENNA

(acting annoyed)

Mum! It's not a swear word you know.

HESTER

(suddenly serious)

It is worse than swearing.

Your dad and I have told you not to mention that name.

MORWENNA looks sheepish and shuffles her feet.

HESTER (CONT'D)

(softer)

Anyway, come and give me a hug. I've missed you, Morwenna.

MORWENNA

Awww. I've missed you too mum.

(they hug)

But don't go getting soppy on me.

How's everyone at home?

They start heading towards the barrier that will take them back into the muggle world.

HESTER

Well, Max is driving your father crazy with his flying.

He's often out with his muggle friends.

I think he's finding it hard to keep the secret.

MORWENNA

(laughs)

Yep, sounds like him. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Next year, when he goes to Hogwarts, he'll make new friends.

What 'bout Sage? She still acting up?

They reach the brick wall, and, still talking, walk through it.

HESTER

You can call it that. There is no place in the house

that is safe from her little fingers.
