Ashton was watching me from our house. When Michael opened the door his eyes widened. He then grabbed my arm and pulled me in.
"Michael, what are you-"
"Get in the closet. He's coming back." said Michael. He shoved me in, holding a finger over his mouth and saying, "shh."
What was going on? Why was his dad coming back? I hid behind some coats and sat down pulling out my phone.
Not long after I sat down, I heard the front door bust open with loud footsteps.
"This can't happen all the time Michael!" I heard his dad yell.
"Why does it matter?! I'm smart enough anyway!" Michael responded. I was confused trying to think of what they were talking about.
"You can't force me back there. It's hell." Michael said.
"Why are you doing this to yourself?!" his dad screamed.
"You were such a mistake. We should've gotten rid of you in the first place." his dad interrupted. I covered my mouth in shock.
"Get the hell out of my house." Michael said quietly.
"You're ruining your-"
"Get the hell out of my house!!" Michael interrupted screaming. I heard the door slam. Michael walked over and opened the door. I was still covering my mouth.
"I- I know that was scary. Just ignore it. I'm not normally like that." he said. "I'm really sorry you had to-"
I interrupted him with a big hug. He hugged me back very tight, his hand going down my back. I had never hugged anyone like that before.
It felt like home.
We were still hugging when Ashton barged in.
"No, no, no, not you too Clifford. Why are older guys trying to steal my cousin?!" Ash yelled.
"It's just two years, Irwin." Michael replied to Ashton, while looking at me with a poker face. I can't like him. I thought. Ashton, Michael and I headed over to the couch.
"Explanation, please." I said to Michael.
"Look, my dad and I have issues. He wants me to go to school, I want him to go to hell. There's not much to explain." said Michael, while he leaned back in his seat. Ashton looked at me. I looked at my fingers.
"Alex don't feel uncomfortable. Ash already knows." he said again.
"Okay." I said quietly. "Just one thing."
"Why don't you come to school?" I asked.
"I hate everything about it. Homework, teachers, etc. I can't handle any of that." he replied.
"Oh. I'm sorry." I said.
"It's not your fault." he said, putting his arm around me. Ashton raised his eyebrows.
"Calm down Ash. I'm not going to hurt her." Michael said. Ashton rolled his eyes and got up, grabbing my arm to head out the door. Michael giggled and watched.
"Bye Mike!" I yelled.
"Bye cutie." he laughed.
"Shut up! Both of you!" Ashton yelled as he pushed the door shut.
"Dude, you have issues." I said to Ash. We walked down the apartment building stairs, and headed back home.
