Anna Edwards was not a typical girl. While all her friends were out partying and hooking up with boys, she stayed home gazing at college applications and studying. Anna was obsessed with her future, determined that she would receive a college education and secure a good job at the end of it. She was so driven by these thoughts, that she forgot how to be a teenager. She didn't ogle pop stars with her friends, she didn't go out for lattes at Starbucks, giggling at hot boys as they walked past. In fact, she barely had any friends, except for Lily. Lily was the complete opposite of Anna, bright and bubbly and obsessed with cute boys and pop music. Anna thought she was silly, but they'd been friends since childhood, and Anna knew that sometimes she needed Lily to bring her back to reality.
"Anna!" Her mom called from downstairs. "Lily's here!"
Anna sighed and put away the prospectus she was reading. She heard Lily bounding up the stairs before crashing in to her room excitedly and leaping on to her bed, disturbing Mr. Fluffs, Anna's grumpy cat. He slinked off, giving Lily a distinctly filthy look.
"I am the best friend ever!" Lily grinned, tossing a strip of card at Anna. Anna, never being one for sports, missed it completely and watched it flutter to the floor. She picked it up and looked at it, her face blank.
"Justin Bieber?" She asked Lily quizzically.
"Anna, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that, and instead pretend that you're excited. Remember I told you I entered a competition online? I had to write about my friends, and why we deserved to win the tickets, so I wrote about you, I wrote about how busy you were, and how you worked so hard to get the grades for college, and now you needed a reward for all your hard work." Lily babbled excitedly, her words coming out too quickly.
"That's really sweet, Lil. Get to the point." Anna sighed.
"I'm getting there, jeez. Okay, so today I woke up and my mom had left some mail by my bed, I thought maybe it was a rejection letter from college, but I opened it and it was these tickets! FOR JUSTIN BIEBER'S CONCERT! The magazine wrote back telling me that I was a good friend for wanting to reward your hard work, and that they hoped we enjoy the show!" Lily took a deep breath and smiled at Anna, clearly waiting for her to get excited.
"That's great! Um, what kind of show is it?" Anna asked.
Lily rolled her eyes dramatically.
"Are you freaking serious? I know you're not in to pop music, but you must have heard of Justin Bieber for God's sake. He's like the biggest star around right now. He started really young, and now he's super-famous, rich, and did I mention HOT?! Here, let me use your laptop, I'll show you." Lily gushed.
"No, that's okay. I believe you" Anna smiled at her friend's enthusiasm. "It's really sweet of you. I'd love to go, I could kind of use a break from all the studying." She glanced down at the tickets. "Um, Lily? The concert is tonight?! A little short notice don't you think?"
"Yeah, they had the letter couriered here, isn't that great? I was thinking we could go shopping, get some killer outfits." Lily was bouncing up and down on the bed. Anna pulled a face.
"I've got a pair of jeans and a top, I'm sure I'll be fine, Lil." Anna walked to her wardrobe, pulled out a pair of jeans and a baggy, shapeless thing. Lily stared at her, horrified.
"Absolutely not, Anna Edwards. I haven't told you the best part yet!" She pulled out two weird looking necklaces. "I got backstage passes too! We're actually going to meet him! They've paid for a hotel for us, and the hotel has a spa and HOW ARE YOU NOT EXCITED OVER THIS?" Lily yelled. Anna giggled, she was actually a little excited. The hotel would be nice, they could stay up late and maybe watch old movies. She just couldn't get excited over going to some concert and meeting some guy she'd never heard of. However, she knew that Lily was a force of nature, and there was no point arguing with her. She sighed, picked up her bag and grinned at Lily.
"Fine, let's go shopping."
