I drove up Ryder’s driveway, Meg right behind me. Earlier today I had asked Meg to come to Ryder’s with me. She said no at first because she had plans with Zander. Then after the next period she said Zander cancelled and she was free to go to Ryder’s with me. It was all so weird.
I waited for Meg before going up to Ryder’s door. Ryder told me I didn’t have to knock, that I could just come right on in any time I wanted so I took him up on that offer. I walked right in, Meg by my side. We were both nervous. We didn’t have a clue what to expect.
There was Ryder, sitting on the couch, and right next to him was Zander. I felt light-headed, like this was surreal. I walked further in. I looked over at Meg, who instinctively looked back at me. We raised our eyebrows at each other and close the door simultaneously.
“What’s going on?” I say, staying by the door.
Ryder and Zander looked at each other, then back at us. My first thought was that they found out they were gay, and were in love with each other. Then Ryder said, “It’s about Cass.”
Relief washed over me, then anger. Cass. It was always Cass. I don’t know why she has it out for us all the time. It’s not like we’ve done anything to her ever. I didn’t know what Cass had done, but I was already infuriated about it. Rage washed over me and I couldn’t shake it.
“What did that bitch do this time?” Meg asked, rolling her eyes and going to sit down next to Zander who put his arm around her shoulders.
I followed suit. I sat down next to Ryder and he put his arm around me as well. Then he explained, “Cass pulled us aside during lunch. She said she had a homework question. It wasn’t about homework at all. She umm… She…”
Zander cut Ryder off, “She took her shirt off.”
Zander is always pretty blunt, granted, so is Meg. They’re truly a perfect match. Meg and I were so stunned though. I didn’t want to know what happened next. Obviously they didn’t just leave. If they had left, they would’ve been back at lunch. I felt sick. I knew Ryder though, he wouldn’t do anything to hurt me.
“What did you do?” Meg said, reading my mind.
“I started to leave, but Ryder told me to stay.” Zander continues.
I gave Ryder a death stare and pulls away. Ryder explained further though, “I didn’t look at her! I swear! Neither of us did. She saw that we turned our backs and she came over to us. She had her shirt back on, thank god. Then she started telling us what she wanted.”
“She wanted us to cheat on you. She said if we did it, she would make us popular or whatever and she would date us. We just laughed.” Zander explained, and the last part made Meg and I smile.
“It was so stupid. We think that’s what happened with Meg and Ty and you and…” Ryder didn’t say Jake’s name, I didn’t want him to.
“We just wanted to tell you guys so you would know.” Zander said, giving Meg a small kiss on the cheek. Meg smiled and I did too.
“Thanks.” I said shyly.
Ryder comes closer again, and I let him wrap his arm back around my shoulders and give me a small squeeze. Meg and I look at each other, we are both lucky to have such good boyfriends. Though we were both enjoying time together with our boyfriends, I felt like we needed to have a little more fun.
“We should go bowling or something.” I suggest.
“I’m down.” Meg giggles a little and I don’t know why.
“Okay. Zander, you wanna drive?” Ryder asks.
“Sure. We’re going to Pin Lanes right?” Zander picks up his keys.
“Duh.” Meg flirts.
“Wanna pick up Trish and Jayde?” I ask, getting up off of the couch.
“I’m good with that.” Meg replies.
“Not Chloe?” Ryder is confused, then I remember that Ryder didn’t know we don’t hang out with Chloe anymore really.
“She hangs out with the band members now, we don’t talk much.” I explained.
“Okay, let’s go then.” Zander says, opening the door for Meg like a gentleman.
“Oh! After bowling wanna just go to the auditions together?” Meg reminds us.
“Sure.” We all say in unison.
I smile at the fact that we’re all so close. The fact that we know each other so well and can just plan things at the spur of the moment. It’s great having such amazing friends. We all head out to Zander’s car, which is actually a mini van. That’s why we usually appoint him to drive, he has the most room for everyone. We give him crap about it being a mom car, but actually, we’re grateful.
We drive off to go pick up Trish, and then Jayde. We laugh on the short trip to Pin Lanes. Then we laugh at Pin Lanes. I miraculously get a couple strikes. I haven’t gone bowling in years, so it really did surprise me. Ryder and Zander go so competitive with each other. Not in a mean way, it was just really funny to watch. Meg got mostly gutterballs and Trish’s ball rolled so slow that it only knocked a few pins down each time. Jayde did a little better than me. Ryder ended up winning, Zander only thirteen points behind. Jayde came in third, me only three points behind. Then came Trish, and then Meg who was thirty seven points behind.
It didn’t matter who won though, it was just amazing that we were all together, and happy.
