5. Can't Be Replaced

Here’s the thing, it’s not that Jake isn’t great. Jake is really nice and all, but he just could never replace Ryder. Ryder was different, special. I know it sounds stupid, because I’m only a Junior in high school, but it’s true. I loved Ryder, and I’m never going to be able to see him again. Unless I get a part in the movie- which will never happen.

Jake comes over to me and kisses my forehead like he usually does. It’s sweet. That’s one thing I like about Jake that Ryder never did. Jake is constantly doing little things like that. Though, he never has done anything big like Kyle used to. Ryder didn’t focus on little things. If he was going to do something romantic, it was going to be really good and sweet.

“Morning beautiful.” Jake says after he kisses me gently on the forehead.

“Hold the public display of affection please.” Meg joked.

Meg shouldn’t be talking though. She and Zander have ‘after-period-kisses.’ After every class period, they meet up near the cafeteria trash cans and give each other a little kiss on the lips. I used to give her crap about how romantic it was to do it by the trash cans.

“Hey there cutie.” I usually don’t talk flirtatiously with Jake, but I guess I felt bad for thinking about Ryder.

“Wanna go off-campus for lunch?” Jake asks, still standing.

“Sure. McDonald’s?”

“Whatever you want. I’m buying.”

“Jake, you always buy. Let me do it for once, please?” It’s true, I feel bad for never really paying for lunch.

“Wanna go half and half then?” Jake counters.

“Jake! I’m paying okay?” It seems like a stupid little argument, but I’m in a little bit of a cranky mood all of the sudden.

Jake sighs, “Okay gorgeous. See ya second period.”

I nod and Jake walks off to his usual table and sits with his friends. I don’t know why, but I’m suddenly crabby. Maybe it’s because Jake insists on paying for lunch every time. Or maybe it’s simply because I still like Ryder.
