4. Justice

Fireworks at midnight,

Chiming in a new year, a new chapter, a new leaf.

                  Lying in the warmth,

Listening to the new starts beginning. Secrets ready to pop

Like the corks on the champagne being shared across the country.

Finally spilling, overflowing, spiralling out of a scared mouth.

Spilt.

Said.

Done.

                                                                                                                               Lives turned upside down

                                                                                                                      Spun out of control.

Truths out. What used to be confused is now understood.

                                                                                      Interviews taken, shaking hands.

                                                                          Nightmare relived,

Truth that once haunted replayed again and again

Like a child’s favourite show. Like the one watched when it happened, to get through, to survive.

Waiting,

Waiting.

Waiting.

All amounts to nothing.

Everything falling apart at the seams,

Crumbling like an empire.

Everything stops, like nothing happened.

One gets to walk free as a bird, like it never happened, like it was a joke.

One is sentenced to a life of plagued nightmares, constantly checking,

Yet is the victim.

Isn’t it just unjust?
