"Oh my God." I say again, utterly dumbfounded. Everyone starts laughing again. I look from Patrick to Pete and then to Joe and Andy. "Why are you? What are-"
"Ray called Joe. We were all only down the road. He thought you might want a surprise." Pete explained.
I looked over at Ray, who just shrugged. I was so shocked. I felt myself getting light headed. This is the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me. I don't deserve it.
"Riley?" Gerard sounds panicked, but distant.
I can feel myself rocking. I was gonna fall. I'm going to pass out. In front of my idols. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. That's just great.
That's when everything goes black.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Talking. More slow beeping. I think I hear Gerard. Maybe.
A hand grabs mine.
"Come on, Ri. Wake up, sweetheart."
Pete. No, Patrick. I don't know. I can find out. It's definitely not Gerard. He doesn't call me Ri, none of the boys do. Narrowing it down to Pete, Patrick, Joe and Andy. The hand is very warm. It's not really big. Andy is out. Actually saying that, it is tiny. It's like a hobbit hand. Patrick is a hobbit. That's it. I worked it out. I just need to open my eyes and see if I'm right.
"Come on. I know you're in there." Definitely Patrick. I'm sure of it. But where is Gerard?
I hear shouting.
"What do you mean: you don't know when she'll wake up? She has to. She can't stay here! It's not safe!" Gerard is yelling. I can't hear what the person says back. I will myself to open my eyes.
"Patrick?" I say, wincing at the bright light.
"Hey." He rubs my hand.
"Where are we? Where's Gerard? What happen-"
"Sh." He continues to massage my hand. "Calm down, sweetheart. We are at the hospital. You got excited and passed out. You've been here for about 24 hours. I'll get Gee."
"No." I grab his hand and look directly into his eyes. They're kind of green. "I mean, please don't leave me alone."
"Okay." He turns round waving at something at the end of the room.
I hear a door open and shut quickly. Footsteps head our way and I panic, thinking about how open a hospital is to get into. The beeps in the background get quicker and quicker.
Gerard grabs my other hand as I struggle to get tubes out of my arms.
"Riley. Riley. Calm down. You're safe. You're here with us. Okay?"
"He's coming. Gerard! He's coming back!"
"That's not gonna happen as long as we protect you."
"No! It'll be like my dream. I can't lose these guys as well!" I try to wave my arm at Patrick, but remember that he is holding my hand. Instead I just look at him.
"Your dream won't come true. I swear I won't let that happen. To any of us." Gerard pulls me in for a hug as a fresh wave of tears hits my eyes.
"I can't lose all of you. You've helped me so much, I'd never forgive myself."
"Don't say that. We're staying. And you're stuck with us whether you like it or not. I would never let anyone hurt you like that, Riley."
"We're all here for you. If anything were to try and get to you it would have to deal with us." I look up to see Patrick smiling at me.
"Thanks guys. Sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me."
"You've been in hospital way too much recently. That's it. The doc said stay for a couple hours, then she'd come and see you and then you're free to go." Gerard is still rubbing my back softly.
After a few seconds of silence, the door to the room opens and in comes Mikey, Frank, Ray, Andy, Pete and Joe. They're all carrying bags and Pete has a huge balloon.
