2. Chapter 2

I started playing 'Breathe (2 a.m)' by Anna Nalick.

"Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on cable, and life's like an hourglass glued to the table. No one can find the rewind button girl, so cradle your head in your hands. And breathe. Just breathe. Oh breathe. Just breathe." I sang.

I finished the wrest of the song an set my guitar back on the rack. I turned around. Everyone was gone, except for Luke. I moved over to my bed and sat next to him.

"Where did everybody else go?"

"They went downstairs."

"You didn't have to stay." I said looking down as I played with my duvet cover.

"I wanted to."

"Why?" I asked as I tilted my head. Luke Hemmings wanted to stay and hear me sing and play guitar?

"Because, you have an incredible voice and your guitar skills are amazing." He smiled as he placed his hand on top of mine. My cheeks heated up and I smiled as I looked away.

He placed his hand under my chin and moved my gaze to meet his. I stared into his ocean blue eyes, they were so beautiful, I was starting to melt. He leaned in closer to me, our faces inches apart. Was he actually going to kiss me?

"Leila, I really like you." He said softly, out of nowhere.

My eyes widened and dropped to the ground as I blushed deeply.

"I really like you too, Luke." I breathed.

He smiled. God, his smile was amazing. He then, suddenly turned a deep shade of red and chuckled.

"Did I just say that out loud?"

"Yeah. Yeah, you did." He laughed slightly and smiled at me.

He looked at my lips for a second and then back at my eyes. I smiled and filled the gap between us as our lips met. I kissed him and he kissed me back. My thoughts were reeling. Luke Hemmings was sitting here on my bed, in my room, in my house and he's kissing me! We fell back on to my bed as I tangled my hands in his hair. Then I remembered...he had a girlfriend. I quickly pushed him off me and stood up, smoothing my shirt.

I turned around and a confused look had swept across his face.

"What's wrong?" He asked as he tilted his head to the side in a questioning manner.

"You have a girlfriend, one who could socially and physical murder me, I might add." Referring back to Cadey.

He stood up so we were face to face. Luke was a lot taller than me, a good 6 or 7 inches at least. My gaze drifted upward so I could meet his eyes.

"Cadey's a slut. She doesn't care about me, she never did. I've wanted to break up with her for a while now." He explained to me.

"Then come back to me when you have and you're single." I said as I pushed his out of my room and shut the door. I sighed heavily and slid down the side of my door. I groaned as I dropped my head to my knees.

I sat up and ran my hands through my hair and stretched out my arms. I walked into Calum's room and no one was there. I went back to my room and stared getting ready for school.

I laced up my shoes and headed downstairs. I grabbed my book bag off the kitchen counter and made sure I had everything. Laptop, headphones, cell phone, journal, pens, and money, yup that's everything!

"Dad I'm leaving!" I shouted as I grabbed my car keys and my coffee off of the table.

"Wait you need to drop us off!" I heard Calum calling as he appeared from around the corner and the rest of the guys quickly followed.

"Okay." I sighed and walked out to the car. We all piled in, Luke sat next to me, his eyes locked on my face. I rolled the top down and cranked the stereo. It started blasting 'Sucker For Pain' by Lil Wanye. I zoned out of all the guys conversations and completely ignored Luke the entire ride there, he had just kissed me last night.

We pulled into the school parking lot and got out. Everyone went in their separate directions. Ashton, Calum, and Michael all went to the North wing and Luke followed me to the West wing. I opened my locker and turned to see Cadey standing next to Luke, my eyes dropped and I turned back to my locker.

"Hi Lukey!" Cadey squealed.

"Hey Cadey." Luke sighed

"What's got you in such a bad mood..." She then spotted me and smirked "was this streetwalker bothering you?"

"Hey!" I shouted taking offence

"What? I mean you dress like you belong under a bridge." She laughed.

"At least I don't look like a number 8." I sneered.

"I'm surprised you can even count to eight, I mean considering your mother was smoking crack when you were born."

I slammed my locker shut and turned to her, fuming.

"Oh hell no!" I growled

"Hey lay of Cadey." Luke said defensively.

"At least my mom wasn't a slut that's gonna get knocked up by her senior year." I laughed

"Well if I do, it's gonna be with Lukey!"

"Oh please, you slut. He was gonna break up with you anyway." I grinned.

"No he's not and even if he was how would you know that?"

"Because he came over last night."

"What!" She screeched turning to Luke.

"Yep, and we made hot, sexy, wet love to each other for hours." I smirked as I tossed my hair and walked away. Luke laughed slightly as the bell rang. I smiled to myself, this wasn't over yet.

I walked into the lunch room and sat down next to my best friend Daisy.

"Hey." I smiled at her as I leaned back against the lockers.

"Hey I heard you told off Cadey. Did you really sleep with her boyfriend?" Daisy said curiously leaning forward.

"Correction. I slept with one of her boyfriends." I laughed.

"Wow. That's low even for you." She laughed as she high fived me. Calum and the guys walked into the lunch room and sat down with Daisy and I. Calum sat next to Daisy and Luke had sat down next to me. The entire world seemed irrelevant as we talked, I noticed Daisy wasn't really aware of her surroundings either.

I suddenly felt a boiling hot water pour down my back. I gasped as I felt it burn my skin. I stood up, soaking wet and turned around to see Cadey and her now empty tumblr cup.

"That's for fucking my boyfriend, you bitch." She hissed. I looked between Daisy and Luke who were both staring at me and Cadey. I quickly ran down the hall and out of the lunchroom and I heard footsteps behind me as I went into the bathroom. I looked up in the mirror and saw Daisy standing behind me.

"Come on, let's get you out of that. See the damage. Daisy said softly as she lifted my shirt up and over my head. She gasped as she gently brushed her fingers down my back. I winced slightly, trying to hold back the tears. I clenched my fists to help with the pain.

"How bad is it?" I choked out.

"Turn around." Daisy sighed. I turned around so now my back was facing the mirror. I turned my head slightly and gasped at the red and purple streaks that had lined my back.

"That bitch." I said trying not to cry. I turned back around and felt Daisy press a cool paper towel into my back. I looked down at my shirt, which was still steaming and wet. I only had my bra on.

"Can you go ask Luke for his jacket?" I breathed.

Daisy nodded and left. She was back within a couple minutes with an oversized knit sweater. I slipped it on carefully. The weird thing was that I felt strangely comfortable in it . This was a whole new feeling. I actually kind of liked it.

I walked out of the bathroom and saw Luke and Cadey making out. I scoffed and rolled my eyes. I walked over to my locker, yanked the door open, grabbed my book bag and car keys. I turned to Daisy and dropped the keys into the palm of her hand.

"I don't feel like driving."

I closed my locker and walked out to my car with Daisy. I felt a hand press into my back. I breathed in sharply and clenched my fists, but the tears still fell.

"Ow!" I screamed. I turned around to see Luke.

"Leila what's wrong?" I saw a look of concern flash in his eyes.

"That demon you call a girlfriend gave me second degree burns." I hissed. Luke just stood there stunned in disbelief.

"Just leave me alone Luke." I sighed and turned to open my door.

"Where are you going?"

"Home. I'm going home."

"Why don't you just stay at school?"

"Because you're here. And Cadey's here and you lied to me. You told me that you liked me and you still made out with another girl." I snapped. I got into the car and slammed my door shut. I turned to Daisy.

"Drive." I said sinking back into my seat. I looked out the side view mirror and saw Luke shrinking as we drove off back to my house.
