I just stared at the door. I kept going over everything in my mind. I didn't understand why it was such a big problem but I knew that I didn't want to ruin Chris's life. "I'm gonna go" was all I said as I took my things and began to head out of house. "Alice, wait" Chris called out. "No Chris. You have a great life. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Live your life with your mate and wife. I probably wouldn't have fit in to your lifestyle anyways so maybe this wasn't meant to be from the beginning" I said softly as I tried to come up with an excuse that was good enough. Maybe I was trying to convince myself or maybe I was trying to convince him. To be honest I really don't know. All I know is that he had a great life and if I stayed then I would only ruin it. "Thanks for everything Chris. I hope that you have a great life with Hope. Please don't try to look for me" I said softly as I closed the door behind me and ran straight into the forest. I kept running for a while. When I stopped I noticed that I had been crying and the tears came back. I lost the only chance at a family. The only chance I had at a normal life. But no, a normal life was never meant for me. I was only meant to run for all my life.
I kept running. I needed to get far away from here. I knew that Salem had probably sent his trackers out after me the second I jumped into the car. It was just a question of time before the figured out where Chris had brought me. That's when it hit me. I had to go back. I had to get Chris and Hope to leave so they could be safe. I turned around so fast that I kicked off of a tree and left a deep impression in the tree but I didn't care. I just needed to make sure that they were safe. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me but something told me that it still wasn't fast enough. But I just had to keep going.
As soon as I arrived at the house I could sense that Hope was back. Perfect. It was gonna make it easier to convince them both to leave. I threw the door open and walked to the living room where they were both now standing. "You two need to leave immediately" I said sternly. I didn't have time to argue with them. I needed to prepare for when Salem's elites arrived. "Why? Alice what's going on?" Chris asked, concern lacing every word. I didn't answer him as at that second I caught their scent. 'No matter how hard they try to hide; they can't hide their scent' I thought to myself. "They are here. Do you have another way out of here?" I asked sternly hoping that they would realize the severity of the situation. "Yeah there is an old escape tunnel beneath the house. It was used during the civil war to get out of the soldiers were coming" Chris replied and hurried towards where the tunnel was hidden. "Good. Both of you inside now. Head for the exit and never come back here" I said sternly as I pushed Chris and Hope inside the tunnel and started to close the hatch for it. But I didn't get to close the hatch before Hope stopped me. "Why can't you come with us?" She asked and for the first time since I had met her she showed real concern for me. "They know my scent. If I go then they'll find all of us sooner. I already brought this on you but I know that if you two are caught then you will both be killed. You, Hope, for being a witch and you, Chris, for being a hybrid and for hiding from the rulers for so long. I need to do this to make sure that you are both safe. So go. NOW!!" I yelled the last part to get them to go. I knew there was no way that I was gonna be able to kill all of Salem's elites, so I just had to hope that he hadn't sent them all. But I quickly shook that thought out of my head. I needed to prepare myself for when they arrived. I hurry around the entire house and tried to find anything I could use to make booby-traps and block certain entryways so I could make sure that they wouldn't surprise me by sneaking up behind me.
It didn't take me long until every entryway besides the front door was either blocked or booby-trapped. I quickly looked around the second floor hoping to find something else to defend myself with because I knew that my swords wouldn't be enough to survive this.
I soon stumbled upon Chris and Hopes bedroom and even though I knew it was their private sanctuary I knew I needed to check it out. I went inside and saw that it was designed to be half his and half hers. I saw that there was a bookshelf on Chris's side and I thought it was a bit weird as I hadn't thought of him as a bookworm. As I walked a little closer I could sense a cold breeze coming from behind it. 'Chris your genius' I thought to myself as I started to push against the bookshelf. After a bit of persuasion, the bookshelf started to budge and moved to the side and revealed a room full of weapons and other defensive equipment. I walked inside and looked around. I knew that the elites were still not that close so I decided to grab a sniper rifle to pick some of them of from a distance and level the odds for me. I looked over the few snipers and decided with a AR-30A1 as I was pretty sure that the elites were going to be wearing body armor and I need to make sure that one shot was all it took. I also grabbed a Remington 870 shotgun for when they got inside the house. And for when they were too close the AR-30A1 I decided to take a Mk11. I picked up all the equipment and a bunch of grenades and headed upstairs to the third floor with the AR-30A1 and set it up so I had a perfect view of the surrounding area. I then ran downstairs to the second floor and grabbed the Mk11 and made it ready for when they got closer or for when I ran out of ammo for the AR-30A1. I made my way downstairs and made sure the shotgun was loaded and ready. I double-checked the booby-traps and made sure that the hatch for the tunnel was hidden and near impossible to find. Once I knew that I was ready for whatever they could throw my way I went up to the third floor and sat down behind the AR-30A1. Only when I sat there did I think about my mate, my werewolf mate. 'FUCK!!! He could be one of the elites' I thought to myself. "Hayabusa. I seek your counsel. I am about to do something very reckless and dangerous and I need your advice" I said out loud hoping that he was paying attention. 'Alice, I hear you. What do you need to know?' He asked inside of my head. 'Salem's elites are approaching. I am ready to take them head on. But I need to know if my mate is among them. I need to know who he is or what he looks like so I can make sure I don't kill him by accident. Please Hayabusa. I need to know' I begged. I knew he normally didn't give out the name of one's mate but I hoping that he was gonna make an exception today. I mean I'm about to take on the werewolf kings elites with everything I have. I can't risk hurting my mate. 'I hear you and I understand your situation. Because of this I am going to tell you this. The werewolf king is among the elites. He has gathered 23 of his most trusted elites. His second in command is with him. Your mate will be the most well equipped of them all. You will easily be able to know him from the rest. In regards to your mate's name, I can't give you that. It isn't my choice. The gods and goddesses made it like this. I know who your mate is but I won't be able to say his name until you find him. I am sorry' He said as softly as he could. 'I understand' I said a little disappointed. I had hoped that I would finally know my mate's name. 'Be careful Alice. A lot more than your happiness depends on your life' He said and disappeared. I didn't understand what he meant but I knew that I never did anything without making sure I wouldn't get hurt.
Okay that may be a lie as I have plenty of scars from a ton of bad ideas of mine.
I was brought back to reality by a rustling sound from the trees. I sniffed the air and immediately picked up on the scent. They were getting closer. I immediately straightened out and looked through the scope of the AR-30A1. I could see them all approaching. I looked at them all and tried to see which of them was the most well equipped of them all. I first only saw 23 wolves trying to sneak closer to the house. But that was until I looked at the tree line. There stood the two missing elites or so I thought. As I looked closer at them I could see that the shorter one was probably the second in command. And that only left the tall one. I focused on his face. His chiseled jawline, his long black hair, his emerald green eyes, his slightly crooked nose that looked like it had been broken a couple of times. He was handsome. Like nothing I had ever seen before. And he seemed somewhat familiar like I had seen him before. I just could remember where I had seen him.
Then I saw his gear. He was carrying enough gear to take on a small army on his own. He had to be my mate. Then suddenly it clicked. The man I was staring at. I knew him.
I had known my mate's name all along.
I had planned on killing him for the murder of my parents.
The man I had dreamt of strangling him in his sleep.
That same man was my mate.
My mate was Salem.
Question Of The Chapter: Where are you from?
