"At the end of the day all you need is Hope and Strength. Hope that it will get better, and strength to hold on until it does."
I shook his hand.
"Flare." I said. He smiled and shifted his position on the floor. He was gritting his teeth, he may have patched himself up but he was still in pain.
"Calvin! You can come out now!" I yelled into the bathroom. The door opened and Calvin's head poked out from around the corner. He looked at me then down to Jason, slowly he came out of hiding and plopped down onto the bed.
"I'll take it you don't have any family to go either?" Calvin asked as he toyed with the items on the shelf above him.
"You could say it that way, yeah." he said clearly not pleased with the topic.
"You should stick with us!" Calvin offered. I was not a fan of the idea, having another person to look out for, that means more money and more people to get hurt.
"I'm more of a lone wolf." he responded. Calvin looked hurt but just shrugged in response. This kid was so easy to read.
"Lone wolf?" I laughed.
"You would have been killed if I didn't take out the other man in the alley!" I protested.
"Yes, but, you would have been killed if I hadn't showed up!" he countered.
"Your point being?"
"Point being, you need me more than I need you." he finished.
"So...you are going to stay with us." I asked.
"Only because you obviously need and want me." he smirked. I rolled my eyes as I opened up my duffel to reveal the water bottles and snacks I have been carrying. I watched as Jason's eyes went wide, and his hands went straight for the goldfish. I laughed as he eagerly poured them into his mouth.
"I haven't had goldfish in ages!" he yelled between bites. Calvin took out a bag of cheetos and I helped myself to some crackers. We ate in silence when I suddenly noticed a small fridge, hidden away behind a half opened closet door. I sprang up and opened up the closet. A small fridge sat in the corner, humming from the small electric current pausing through it. I turned the mini handle and opened up the fridge, hoping for soda or some cold water bottles. Instead, I found beer. A small sigh escaped my lips. Beer! Really! Of all things it had to be an alcoholic drink! I spun on my heel towards Jason.
"How old are?!" I questioned.
"18." he shrugged.
"So not only did you kill three people today, but your also hiding beer!" I yelled.
"Uh first I didn't kill them, they are just injured. Two, I am hiding and yes, enjoying beer." he smirked. Great now I've got a wise guy following me around. As annoying and handsome he is, we do need him in all honesty.
"Also, have you ever thought one of them might have dropped a tracker on you during one of your encounters, and thats how they are finding you all the time. How else would they know you were going to Chicago?" Jason asked. I hadn't even thought of that! How could I be so stupid not to realize it? I took off my jacket and spread it out on the bed. I started patting it down. Left pocket, empty. Right pocket, coin? I pulled out what felt and looked like a dime. I looked closer and saw the small red blinking light inside. Crap. They've been tracking me this whole time! I dropped it on the ground crushing it under my shoes.
"We need to get out of here." I said, gathering my things together. Jason was one step ahead, packing up his belongings into a small string bag. Calvin tried to compose himself, but his face had already turned pale with worry.
"Follow me, we'll go out the back door in case they're already here." Jason ordered. We followed him out the door, sneaking down the front staircase. Instead of going towards the front we took a employee only hallway towards the back. I didn't say anything to Calvin (he might've fainted), but I saw "Nightmare" talking to the lady at the front. I pulled Calvin in front of me and walked at a brisk pace towards the back door. Up ahead I saw Jason swing the back door open. He pulled Calvin out as I ran up and out, closing the door quickly before anyone noticed.
"I know a place, this way." Calvin said from behind me. That's right he has friends here. I spun around and followed him navigate the winding streets and alleys of Chicago. Calvin might not think were being followed but I wanted to make sure, and apparently so did Jason. We kept looking back making sure we were alone. He met my gaze and gave a quick nod, All Clear, he didn't have to say it for me to know what he meant.
I found the quote above and I thought it really fit the story. Leave a like or comment me some feedback. Thanks!~Destiny_Taylor
