He didn't kill me in my sleep. That was reassuring, I woke up in one piece. I checked under the bed, duffel and satchel were both where I left them. I let out a sigh of relief. I got out of the crumby mattress and grabbed a snack from my bag, thats when I realized even though Calvin hadn't killed me, he had disappeared. I looked in the bathroom, empty. His few belongings were gone, I guess he left in the morning. I didn't put much thought into it as I grabbed my things. I couldn't stay in one place too long, these terrorists have too many connections, they would find me. Duffel and satchel in hand I walked out the door and turned down the hallway. There are some sounds that you never mistake for anything else. One of those sounds is when someone cocks a gun. The small chink is unmistakable. I heard that exact sound walking down the hallway. It came from behind me. Every muscle tensed as I, at agonizing speed, turned to face my attacker. The first thing I saw was Calvin, but not alone. Calvin stood a mere ten feet away with a gun pointed at his head. I recognized the other man immediately, the same man from the train station. I left my mark on him with a considerably large bump on his head and cut on his chin. I put my hands up in surrender. I may have just met this Calvin kid but I don't plan on having him killed because of me.
"Get on your knees!" the terrorist yelled. I sank to my knees in surrender trying to come up with a plan.
"Hands on your head after you place your bags in front of you!" I grabbed my bags, but as I swung them around I quickly grabbed the dagger and hid it behind my head as I interlocked my fingers there. It was very small but also lethal.
"If you try anything I'll shoot him!" He said.
"Can't I at least get your name?" I asked sweetly.
"You can call me nightmare." He sneered at me. Fine Nightmare it is.
"Aw your name kinda reminds me of your face." I sneered back. Smack talk wouldn't help me but I didn't care. He walked over to me gun still pointed at Calvin. He knelt down in front of me and slapped me right across the face.
"I wouldn't try smack talking me sweetheart I'm the one with the gun." he said. True. I could feel the red mark forming on my cheek. I still felt the dagger hidden in my fingers. Just a little closer.....
Got you. He leaned in far enough to get a clean swipe. He looked inside the bag at the same time I swung the knife up over my head and dug it into his leg. He yelped in pain but I didn't care. He didn't recover in time to keep his gun. I smacked the gun out of his hands and grabbed my bags off the floor.
"Calvin run!" I yelled as I lunged for the gun. Nightmare did the same, leaping with his injured leg towards the gun. We both grabbed the butt of the gun its cold metal stinging my hands. I ripped it out of his hands crawling back towards my grandma's room. he grabbed my leg pulling me back towards him. He was on top of me now. I didn't know how to fire a gun but I sure as hell could look like it. I swung around pointing the gun at his face. He froze holding his hands up. I slowly moved away from him. Now the only problem is he stood right in my path. I needed to get to the stairs on the other side of the hallway.
"Move." I said. He didn't budge. I moved closer, too close. He swung his arm up grabbing the gun from my hand and locking my neck in his arms. I didn't even realize he had pulled the knife out of his leg. He held it now to my throat in an arm lock. Well that didn't work out as planned.
"If I wasn't ordered to bring you in alive you would be dead already." He hissed in my ear. He was about to turn around for the bags when I heard a sickening thunk. Nightmare dropped to the ground just like at the station. Ouch, I thought to myself. I turned around to see Calvin standing there with a pipe in his hands.
"Thanks." I said.
"I owe you the thanks." he laughed. I grabbed the gun and knife, tucking it into my jacket. Picking up my satchel and duffel I headed for the stairs.
"Wait!" I turned around to see Calvin dragging the body into the apartment. Smart. I helped him hide the body and then we headed out of the stuffy apartment building back into the New York streets.
"Got a plan?" he asked as we stood outside.
"No." I said thinking about where we could go.
"Chicago?" he asked.
"I have some friends there that could hook us up with some more supplies and maybe some information about your father." he said like it was totally cool.
"What!? You didn't think to mention that earlier!" I shouted.
"It's fine." I sighed pulling him back down towards Grand Central.
"Money?" I wondered thinking about how we would afford tickets for two.
"Yeah." he said nonchalantly.
"How much?" I asked.
"Not much, like....$200." he said. I think my eyes actually popped out of my skull.
"What! Your freaking rich!" I said.
"It's enough to get buy, if you were wondering I'll pay for your ticket." he said.
"Oh thanks." I said astounded by his generosity. We walked up to the ticket counter and bought two tickets to Chicago, luckily a train was leaving in five minutes. We practically ran to the platform to catch the train. We found two seats in the packed train and settled in for a long ride.
Tell me what you think so far!~Destiny_Taylor
