They burnt her for witchcraft, Severina Slytherin.
“No, leave her alone, “ Salazar Slytherin met the eyes of his sister. “Please.”
His hands were tied, and stripped from his wand, he could do nothing but watch. Severina held her head high, as her hands were bound around the pile on top of the fire.
“Please, I beg you, “ he cried. The fire was lit.
People shouted and spat at him, pointing at his sister with the fire gleaming in their eyes. He couldn’t hear a word they said. Somehow, Salazar only had eyes for Severina.
The flames hadn't reached her yet, but the smoke was choking her.
“No, “ his voice cracked as her scream pierced his ears. “No. “
As Severina burnt, people started dragging him against the fire.
“Your next, “ a man spat in his face. Salazar screamed and bit and kicked, but the men were too strong. Suddenly, he realized, her screams had stopped. Salazar’s eyes fell at the charred body. She was dead.
And his voice ripped a whole in the world. He screamed the only words he could think of.
“Avada Kedavra. “
The bodies laid were they had stood. There were no sounds, no bird chattering or children crying, the world had grown silent. He didn’t dare nearing her, Severina. He just sat with his arms curled around his body, as if this would keep himself together. Somehow, he had ripped the ropes and he had used magic without a wand. But this want not what he’d wanted.
“Bring her back to me, bring her back to me please, “ he kept repeating. He came aware of a cart approaching, but he didn’t move. He just sat still, waiting.
“Oh my goodness, “ a female voice exclaimed, and Salazar finally raised his glance. A beautiful woman stood with a hand over her mouth, in the middle of the massacre. She didn’t look at him, but at another man, coming out of the cart.
“Stay inside Helga, “ he said to someone still inside the cart. “Rowena dear, get back inside. “
He held his hands towards the woman, her long, black hair fluttered in the wind. The man led against the cart, but as he turned around a last time, his eyes met Salazar’s.
He had green eyes, and somehow, it seemed as if they moved like a rattle snake in the grass. Somehow, it was as if he was on fire, still burning even though half his body had gone. Salazar gasped and closed his eyes. As he opened them again, the green eyes were in front of him. Emerald green and calm, looking at him with kindness.
“Sir, are you alright? “ The man laid a hand on his shoulder. “Can you tell me what’s happened here? “
Salazar shock his head.
“They burnt my sister, “ he just said. The man glanced at the fire, and his eyes darkened.
“I am so sorry. “
Salazar said nothing. His body seemed to have run out of energy, and he could barely move a muscle. He just wanted to stay on the ground for ever. He had no one now anyway, Severina was all he had had left.
“What’s your name? “
“Salazar Slytherin, “ he didn’t noticed he was crying until now. Tears were overflowing his eyes, strangely enough, since he had never cried, not even when his parents died.
“I’m Godric Gryffindor, “ Salazar met his eyes again. The green seemed to hypnotize him, telling him to thrust this man, Godric, even though he didn’t know him at all. “Come with me Salazar, please. “
