Seeing Emily last night in the meadow was somewhat of a surprise, I wasn’t expecting her to be there but I’m glad she was because she looked beautiful under the moonlight.
I woke up this morning and I thought I was dreaming because I was smiling and the smell of Emily lingered on me, I could still feel the softness of her lips on mine then there was a knock on the door.
I jolted upright then got out of bed and answered the door. Not paying attention to the fact that I was just in grey shorts, I walked down the hallway to the front door but when I opened it, I got a surprise.
“Where is she? Where’s my daughter?” The King demanded while yelling at me.
I replied “I don’t know...I haven’t seen her since last night.”
“You’re lying...it’s because of you, she left.” He said loudly but this was news to me, I asked confused. “What do you mean, Emily’s left?”
King Tony relaxed and gave me a piece of paper, I opened it and it was a note that Emily had left her parents.
“I think it’s unfair for you to judge someone, you hardly know...especially when it’s the guy I love. You of all people, dad, should know what it’s like to fall for someone outside the royal circle.
Because I can’t be with Jackson, I’m leaving the Palace and sacrificing everything for him. I’d rather be with him than become a Princess.
Jackson is the only one who knows where to go and that is where we shared my favourite place...I’m not coming back unless I know Jackson and I can be together because I will marry him.”
After I read that, I knew Emily was telling me where she was but I also knew I had to go alone. “I know where she is but...I have to go by myself.”
King Tony replied “No way...not a chance in...”
“Why do you dislike me, sir?” I blurted out asking.
He went quiet, sighed then looked at me and replied softly. “I don’t dislike you, son...it’s because of your father, and he became my best friend shortly after he met your mother. You remind me of him...it brings back memories when I see you with my daughter. You two are like your mother and father.”
“I get that, sir but...I love Emily, she means everything to me and I think my dad showed me, Emily the day of his funeral. I want to marry your daughter, sir...I always have but only if you’ll let me.” I said as I gave King Tony the note back.
He replied “I will if you bring my daughter home, Jackson and then we’ll talk about you and my daughter.”
“That’s better than nothing, thank you.”
King Tony left after that so I got changed into my swimming trunks, a shirt and chucked on my shoes then went to her favourite place that we shared...the waterfall.
I arrived and I couldn’t see Emily anywhere, I called. “Emily!” but there was no answer.
I walked around the place for an hour then I remembered something. When Emily and I were here, she said to me when we were behind the waterfall. “When you’re behind here, no-one can see you or know you’re here.”
I quickly jumped into the water and swam over to the waterfall. I stopped just before it and thought “I hope she’s here.” then I went under and swam to the other side. As my head went above the water, I saw Emily curled up on the rock above me. I got out of the water rather quickly and went to her side. “Emily...”
Placing my hand on her arm, she didn’t move and she was freezing. I laid next to her on the rock and held her close to my chest. I could feel her breathing against my neck then I felt her head move so I pulled away and she looked at me. “Jackson...”
“I’m here, Emily...what were you thinking?”
Emily placed her hand on the side of my face then leant up and kissed me. Her lips weren’t warm like they usually are, they were cold and purple but I didn’t pull away until she did. “I’m sorry...was dad mad at me?”
“He was at me...you knew he would come to me, I told him that I want to marry you.” She looked at me and replied “What did he say?”
“He told me to bring you home then we would talk about it. Don’t you dare run away again, Emily?”
“I won’t Jackson, I love you and want to be with you forever...” Emily sat up and looked at me. “Did dad put up a fight in wanting to come with you to find me?”
“Not really but he also understood why I had to come alone. Will you come home with me?” I asked as I sat up.
“The Palace...I want you to be what you are, Emily...you’re my Princess and my future. I won’t let you sacrifice that part of your life for me...I won’t allow you to do that.” I stood up and held out my hand. Emily placed her hand in mine and stood up as well. “You ready to go home.”
Emily nodded then we jumped back in the water and swam to the sand. We were walking out and her dad came into view, he ran up to us then Emily did the same back and ran up to her dad. When they reached each other and hugged, he said with tears running down his face. “Emie...”
“I’m sorry, dad...I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry, too. You’re right...I shouldn’t have disliked Jackson as much as I did, he’s a good kid and I will allow you to see him.”
This made me smile because it means I get to keep seeing Emily and no more sneaking around. King Tony looked at me and said “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, sir.”
Emily pulled away from her dad and said “Thank you, daddy.”
She turned in my direction, walked towards me then she reached me and threw her arms around my neck and hugged me, her dad said “I’ll see you both back at the Palace for your Cotillion.”
“Okay, daddy!” Emily said before he walked away and left us there.
We got back to the Palace and her mum rushed up to Emily and hugged her rather tightly. “Emily...come, we need to get you ready.”
That’s when I saw my mum standing on the stairs smiling at me. I walked up to her and she had tears in her eyes. “Mum...Why're you crying?”
“I’m proud of you, Jackson. Your father will be, too.” She hugged me with tears streaming down her face and I did as well when I hugged her back. “Come...we must get you ready because you’re walking Emily down the aisle?”
“What?!” I asked shocked, I know I want to marry Emily but not right now.
Mum laughed and said “You’re walking her down the aisle to be presented.”
“Oh...okay.” I looked at Emily before mum led me up the stairs to a room that had clothes waiting for me. It was a big room, it had a bed and bathroom attached to it. The room was bigger than our home.
“Change into these, I know it’s not what you’re used to but for this ceremony you need to wear them.” Mum said as she led me to the bed and showed me a blue velvet jacket trimmed with silver, gold and red, a white dress shirt, black dress pants with silver, gold and red down the side. I liked them actually and could get used to wearing them if there’s a special occasion.
Mum left me alone in the room. I had a shower and got changed into the clothes then looked into the mirror. I was looking at myself and I saw my dad standing next to me, he was smiling at me. “I’m proud of you, son.”
“You sent, Emily to me...didn’t you?”
He smiled and said “I gave you a little shove towards your future...the rest was up to you and you made it happen, son.”
“I miss you, dad.” I said with tears running down my face. “I wish you were here.”
“I am, son...I always have been and I will be with you and your mother always.”
Just then mum walked in as I was putting on the dress shoes. “Jackson...you look so handsome. If only your father could see you.”
“He can, mum.” I saw dad smiling at my mother then he stroked her cheek and faded away.
“I know he can.”
