Lupe walked with Remus across the grounds almost a month into the school year. She had become top of most of her classes and was having a blast hanging out with Remus and his friends.
"Lupe, you know about the Whomping Willow, right?" Remus asked as they walked in the direction of the angry tree.
"The angry tree that beats up students and sits on top of the secret passage to the Shrieking Shack?" Lupe answered and Remus nodded.
"That's where we go every month." He explained.
"So nobody else gets bitten, I know." Lupe said.
"There's a knot near the base of the tree, we press that with a stick and the tree stops moving."
"Allowing us to get in."
"Yeah. Madam Pomfrey usually accompanies us as far as the passage, but not even she comes as far as the Shack."
"So we go see her tonight and she makes sure we get to the tree without being seen?"
"Yeah, Matter of fact, we should start heading up there now." Remus said and lead his sister up to the Hospital wing.
"Oh, good. I thought I was going to have to go fetch you myself." Madam Pomfrey said and grabbed her cloak from her office.
"I'll be there in the morning to come get you two." she said and the two werewolves followed the nurse out to the Whomping Willow. Madam Pomfrey grabbed the long branch laying just out of the trees reach and jabbed at the knot at the base of the tree. The tree stopped moving.
"I'll see you two in the morning." She ushered them into the tunnel and Lupe followed Remus as he ran down the tunnel towards the shrieking Shack. Once the tunnel widened out into a room, Lupe was able to straighten up and look around.
"Wow. This is a cool place." Lupe said. Suddenly, there was a familiar burst of pain. Lupe doubled over, and saw that Remus had, too. She watched as he turned from human to a wolf-like creature. His face lengthened into a snout, he fell to all fours, and grew fur. Lupe felt herself fall onto her hands and knees as well, and felt the prickling sensation as fur grew all over her body. Finally, the pain stopped, and she and Remus let out a howl as her first full moon at Hogwarts began.
James sat in the common room tossing a lit dungbomb between himself and Sirius. He tosses it to Sirius who paused, hesitating with is return.
"Did you hear that?" He asked and James shook his head, watching as the spark on the fuse disappeared into the bomb and it exploded, expelling the nastiest smell into the air and coating Sirius with it.
"Dude! That was awesome!" James roared with laughter and Sirius grinned, wiping the remnants of the bomb out of his eyes.
"Do you know where Remus is? He said I could borrow his notes." Peter asked from the floor.
"No, I haven't seen him, but here's his notes. Hope he and Lupe are alright." James said and handed him the notes Remus had given him before leaving.
"Last I saw him he and Lupe were taking a walk on the grounds." Sirius said and James went over to look over the grounds for their friend. A lonely howl rang out over the grounds, quickly joined by another one, making James wonder what exactly was in the forest.
"Do you think we should go look for them?" Sirius asked and James shook his head.
"Nah, they'll be fine. He did this last year too remember. Probably a family thing, they'll be back in time for classes tomorrow." He assured his friend.
"Ok, now you've lost it." Sirius muttered and shoved James into the window.
"Dude! What was that for?!" James shoved him back and Sirius laughed.
"Tomorrow's Saturday, you dunderhead! We don't have classes." Sirius shoved him back and James chased him up to the dormitory, their missing friends forgotten in the heat of the moment.
