A while I was reading a book in bed when my phone went off. I looked at the number and realized that it was Ellie, my best friend. She was supposed to come back in a couple days from her family vacation. "Hey!" I answered.
"Hey girl! How are you? You would not believe my day! There was a hot guy at the hotel pool and he asked me if I wanted to go for a drink with him. Of course I said yes and things lead to another. I had to stop myself from kissing him..." She went on without taking a breath, which was usual for her. If people had powers, I am sure that speed talking and not needing to breath would be her power.
I thought myself as a conversationalist, except with hot guy apparently, but she was something else all together. Once she finally took a breath I could only laugh. "That's awesome. Having vacation woes, I am jealous. Kind of. I have news to, actually." I told her.
"What? Did you and that douche bag get back together? Oh no, honey. No. He is an idiot. You deserve better, and I mean that." She assumed way too quickly. I rolled my eyes at her, even though she couldn't see me.
"No. But it does involve a guy." I said and before I could explain she started talking.
"What?! Tell me. Tell me. Is he hot? Are you not single anymore?! Rayne Warford! I forbid you to go out with someone you just met, or anyone in particular until I get to me this guy!" She said. I laughed again and put my book on the nightstand beside me.
"Last night a guy moved in, in front of my house. He is extremely sexy and his name is Clifford. When I went out for a run this morning he was leaving his house and he decided to join me. For some reason I couldn't stop myself from flirting a little bit and he also asked me to hang out with him tonight. But aunt Liv got in today so I had to turn him down, also I thought it was a little strange for him to want to hang out alone for a while when I just met him." I purposely left out the part of his friend who I mistaken for his girlfriend and how he got my cell phone number.
On the other like I heard Elli squealing in delight. "You go girl! Getting a hot guy to go after you, and making it hard to get. Awesome." She said. I couldn't help but laugh at the last part. Was I unknowingly trying to be hard to get? Would that even make him want to be around me or know me better like that?
I sat up more and put the pillow behind my head. "How is your vacation besides the hot swimming pool guy?" I asked her.
"It is fabulous! Besides the hot pool guy, I am shopping a lot. I found a cute trinket for you and I can't wait to give it to you when I get back. Oh yeah! The family is cutting the trip short, so I will be because Monday. Unfortunately. I also got a really bad sun burn today, which completely sucks." She said, and with the next few minutes she continued talking about her trip. "Well, I should go. I need to sleep and I have a date tomorrow with the swimming pool guy." She said.
"Okay. Bye." We hung up and I laid back down. Closing my eyes I sighed. Slowly I was able to relax and almost fell asleep but my phone buzzed, indicating a text. I looked at it and Clifford's name popped up.
Sorry if I sounded clingy earlier. I just want to know you better. He told me. I couldn't help but smile at his last comment.
No problem. You didn't sound clingy. I replied.
Yes. I clicked send and thought about what Ellie said. Maybe tomorrow after supper you can come over for a swim? I have a heated pool in the back yard. I didn't want to have a chance that maybe I would drive him away and make it so that he doesn't feel as if I would want to talk to him or be around him.
I waited for a reply, worrying about what he might say. Minutes passed and finally my phone went off. Sounds great. See you then. He messaged me. I felt happy that he didn't deny the offer and get rejected.
Perfect. G2G. I messaged and closed my eyes. I felt so tired and I really need sleep after everything that has happened today, and the nightmare I had last night. Hopefully it wouldn't be too awkward tomorrow since I barely knew this guy. And hopefully aunt Liv won't mind having him come over.
