"So, what made you come here?" Ellie asked Clifford her one hundredth question. We all sat in the living room, Ellie and I on the sofa and Clifford on a love seat. She was chatting up a storm and because of that it didn't become awkward at any moment.
Clifford smiled but it did not reach his eyes. They seemed almost... Sad. Which, for some reason, seemed strange. "Family business." He said.
Ellie didn't seem to notice the sadness in his eyes and quickly say up straight. "Clifford! Did you know that our girl, Rayne, plays the violin?" She asked.
Slowly I felt the heat build in my neck and cheeks. Clifford looked at me and truly smiled, a small little shake of his head. "I'm not that great though." I sheepishly told him.
Ellie snorted and rolled her eyes at me. "Girl, you're one of the greatest musicians I have ever heard." She directed at me. Looking at Clifford she said, "she also plays the piano."
Clifford raised an eyebrow at me which was quite hot. How can that gesture be so hot? "Do you think I can hear you play sometime? It doesn't matter the instrument." He asked.
The heat swallowed up my face and I could only nod as a pathetic yes. A click of a door opening came from the front of the house by the kitchen and I knew it was aunt Liv. "Rayne! Ellie!" She called out.
Ellie lit up and smiled, the grin stretching from ear to ear. For the longest time Ellie though of aunt Liv as her own aunt and vice versa. Ellie was a family member even without the linkage of blood between us.
I glanced at Clifford and notice something strange in his expression. Was it... Fear? No. It couldn't be. Aunt Liv started to walk into the living room and when she spotted Clifford she dropped her purse and stood there with her mouth agape. Completely shocked. By why?
Clifford slowly stood and backed up from aunt Liv. He raised his hands slightly and stared intently at aunt Liv. "This isn't what you think Olivia. They didn't send me to recruit her." He said.
Recruit me? He knows aunt Liv? It looked as if he was about to say something but aunt Liv pulled out a small gun from her purse in a flash. Like super, inhuman fast. Both Ellie and I gasped and I'm pretty sure she screamed a little- or was that me?
I couldn't focus now. What was happening? Why was aunt Liv pointing a gun at Clifford, why did she even have a gun? How did they know each other? What did Clifford mean by recruiting me? So many questions floated in my mind. "Aunt Liv?" I squeaked.
"Get out of here Clifford. I should have known you would try to go after her. You and your kind is not accepted here. Not in my home." She hissed. I blinked. His kind? Was he non human too? Oh God, my breath started to increase.
"Olivia, listen. Ur heard a rumour of the Akuma. He is trying to protect her." He pleaded. "I would not put the next seer in danger. She is our only hope."
What the hell was going on here? "Enough!" Ellie yelled. She looked scared and confused but she also looked a bit annoyed. "Aunt Liv, put down the gun. Let's all talk about this rationally over tea."
The two of the were quiet but finally Aunt Liv lowered her gun and made sure it wouldn't go off before putting it back into her purse. "If I don't like the reason why you're here, Ryan, I'm going to send your head back to your precious Ur."
Thinking about that sent a cold shiver trickle down my spine. How could aunt Liv be so cold? And how was Ellie not hyperventilating? Clifford nodded and sat down slowly, showing he didn't mean harm.
