"Niki!" Remus called up the stairs. "It's time to go!"
Niki skipped down the stairs. "Were you excited before you went to Hogwarts?" she asked.
"Well, yes." Remus said. "But I also had great reason to be worried."
"Do you think I should worry?" Niki asked.
"Why would you need to worry?" Remus asked, brow furrowed.
"Well, I am one half of the Twins who Lived." Niki explained. "Which means of course it'll be really easy to make friends!" her voice dripped with sarcasm.
"You'll be fine, Niki." Remus smiled at her. "If you have to, just find one person you really like, and become good friends with them. Then, if you want to branch out, find others, too."
"Do you think Harry will stick with me?" Niki sat down on the steps.
"Why wouldn't he?" Remus asked, startled.
"Because. He's best friends with Ron, right?" Niki asked. Remus nodded slowly. "But I don't like Ron. So what if he goes to hang out with Ron, and I'm left with nobody? I've never even had any Muggle friends. What if I don't get any magic friends, either?"
"Niki, I'm sure that Harry will stay with you." Remus sat down next to her. "If it ever came down to a choice between you or Ron, I'm sure he'd pick you."
"Really?" Niki laid her head on Remus's shoulder.
"Really." Remus smiled at her. "Now hurry! It's time to go!"
Niki leapt to her feet and hurried into the kitchen, while Remus ran up the stairs to bring down her trunk. When he came back down, he saw Harry and Niki were arguing. Again.
"Stop trying to blame me for everything!" Harry was shouting. "I didn't do it!"
"Yes he did, Dadfoot!" Niki shrieked. "I didn't to anything! Why can't he for once accept that he did it and not pin it on me!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Remus said. "What's going on."
"One of them did that." Sirius pointed to a hole in the wall that Remus had not previously noticed. "They both insist that it was the other one."
"Okay, you two." Remus said. "Tell me exactly what happened."
Niki immediately started talking.
"I was joking around and told Harry he looked like a pig and then he shoved me and I tripped over the stool and hit the wall so it was Harry's fault not mine but he keeps saying it was my fault and he says I pushed him when he pushed me and I didn't mean to hit the wall but he keeps saying I did it on purpose and Dadfoot doesn't believe me and you've got to Moomy because I didn't do it Harry did!"
"Okay, Harry, what's your story?" Remus asked.
"Niki said I looked like a pig, so I pushed her a little bit, and she came back and pushed me harder, so I tripped and fell into the wall!" Harry said. "Niki did it!"
"Okay, we'll just say you both did it, because in either story, you were both part of it." Sirius said. "Now hurry up! It's time to go!"
Harry and Niki glared at each other before leaving the room to find their things.
"Those two are a handful, aren't they?" Sirius asked.
"Yep." Remus said. "They're quite like James and Lily, though."
Sirius and Remus shared a sad smile.
